It was first reported by a grandson who lived nearby. THE BODIES were recovered yesterday afternoon after the blaze had already destroyed their small home. The fire was believed to have been caused by a faulty gas heater that caused an explosion which shot flames through the house, said Solon Maxwell, Putnam County coroner. Authorities identified them as: John Royce Williams, 27, of the Falcon community in Mc-Kairy County, and his two sons, John Royce 6, and James, 11 months. The wife-mother, the former Donna Dawson, was in fair condition last night in Mc-Nairy General Hospital, Selmer, suffering from burns, cuts and shock. McNairy County Coroner Ward Moore said the fire was believed to have started early yesterday in the Williams' three-bedroom, frame home from a wood heater flue and apparently was well under way when Williams and his wife awakened and fled from the house by breaking a window in their bedroom. It was here that she suffered cuts, authorities said. MOORE SAID Williams reentered the home to try to rescue the children in another bedroom but was trapped when the roof and walls caved in on him. Moore said it was apparent from the location of the bodies that Williams never reached his children's bedside. Selmer firemen responded to the blaze, two miles outside the city, but it was already too late when they were called, Moore Williams was an employe of Bishop Trucking Henderson.
