returned Monday morning to the State Normal to re same their studies Capt Jones who was section master in charge of the section from Mooresville to Mt Ulla on the Mooresville Mocksville Railroad died suddenly Monday while at work about six miles from town His re mains were taken to ChaJotte Tues day night for burial Capt Jones and family moved here a year ago from Charlotte He was a promi nent and useful metnberof the Meth odist Church and superintendent of the Sunday school His death was due to heart disease with which hf had been troubled forsotne time Mr James Overcash an ex cellent citizen died at his home near town Tuesday night at the age of 63 years A Young Esq of Concord spent Tuesday night in town Lester and Will Troutman sons of A and Troutman went to Oak Ridge to enter school at Correspondence ot The Landmark Yesterday afternoon at 1 the colored church on the outskirts of the village was burned Tneir public school was being taught in the building and the fire originat ed from a defective flue The school children succeeded in saving the benches and other furniture This was a nice frame building and the loss will be very much felt by tho congregation who were devotedly was buried at Trinity Tuesday after noon Mrs Elizabeth Reid widow of Geo Reid was buried at Bethany last Thursday Messrs Privett and Thos Moore left for Nobelsville Ind last Monday Mr Privett left just a week before for the same place These young men expect to make their home in Indiana Mr John Stone was to have started to a point in Arkansas Tuesday eve ning of this week but for some reason he changed bis mind He bad his golds packed told his people goodbye and some of his friends went with him to town to see him off When he got to the depot it occurred to him that there was place like He returned home the same night and perhaps is much better off by it Everybody seems to be pleased with the increased appropriation for the public schools Miss Mary Lizzie Hall is teaching at Bethany Miss Rockwell Hall at the Moore school house Mr Wm Edwards at and the writ er at Trinity or aught we know the schools are progressing nicely The constitutional amendment will be discussed at the
