Marilyn was born May 18, 1921, in Ripon, the daughter of Albert and Myrtie (Bazeley) Fortnum. She graduated from Ripon High School in 1939 and cum laude from Ripon College in 1943. During her college years she was active in Professor Mask and Wig Plays and was a member of choir.

She was a member of Delta Phi Sigma sorority and in later years, Marilyn joined Kappa Delta also. Marilyn taught High School English in Augusta, WI, where she coached forensics and directed class plays for two years. After attending summer school at the University of WI in Madison, she was oYered a teaching position in Ripon and she wanted to return to her home town. She taught 8th and 9th grade English, started the forensic program in the Junior High and coached the Senior High program. She married Blaine Briese on August 10, 1946, in the First Congregational Church.

They opened The Spot Restaurant in September of 1950. In later years it was known as The Spot Supper Club. Bud died in June of 1987 and Marilyn continued to run the business until 1990 when it was sold. Bud and Marilyn had four children: Bonnie, Robert Barbie and Bert. Over the years Marilyn was a member of A.A.U.

Order of the Eastern Star, Tuscumbia Ladies Golf Association, Friends of the Library, Ripon Historical Society and Past President of the Ripon Club. Marilyn was a long time member of the First Congregational Church UCC where she had served as Moderator, Released Time Teacher, Past President of Fellowship, Representative of Church Women United and on the Music Committee. She enjoyed volunteering in her community. She had served as a Red Cross volunteer at the Ripon Hospital, served two terms on the United Way Board, was an Art Presenter in the elementary schools, member of the Reading Program at Roosevelt School and served as a judge during forensic contest at the High School. After graduation from Ripon College, she was her class agent for many years, served two terms on the college Alumni Board and was honored to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1979.

Marilyn loved to play bridge! She had belonged to two bridge clubs for over bfty years, and had played in many foursomes. Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Turney and Barbie (Todd) Splitt- gaber both of Ripon; two sons, Bob Briese (Tila) of Mequon, Bert (Amy) Briese of Ripon; grandchildren, Marcie (Val) Turney, Evan (Carla) Turney of Philadelphia, PA, Adam, Cody and Kallin Splittgaber of Ripon, Marina and Ethan Baumann, of Mequon, Tyler and Amber Briese of Ripon; one great-grandchild, Baby Turney to be born in October; three nieces, Nancy Terry, Deborah Fewell and Mary Ellen Biebel and three nephews, Philip Haensgen, Paul Utter and Tom Utter. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Blaine Briese, two sisters, Vilo Utter and Ferne Haensgen, two brothers, Nyle and Floyd Fortnum, two sisters-in- law, Betty Durant and Elaine Briese and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for Marilyn will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014, from 10:00 11:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church UCC, 220 Ransom Street, Ripon, WI 54971.

Celebration of life will be held Monday, June 30, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church UCC in Ripon. Reverend Joanna will oYici- ate. Inurnment will take place at Green Lake Center Cemetery in the Town of Green Lake. Please visit www.butzin- marchant.com to send online condolences Briese, Marilyn Fortnum Irene Catherine Gilgenbach, 94, died on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at St. Francis Home. She spent 10 years in Serenity Circle suCering from Alzheimers. Irene was born at her William and Mattie (Brielmaier) SteCes, farm home in St. Joe, WI, on September 16, 1919.

She was the oldest of eight children and attended St Catholic Elementary School in St. Joe, WI and Fond du Lac Senior High School. After high school graduation, Irene attended Green Lake Normal School. Later, she attended Oshkosh State University and Marian College to earn her Bachelor of Education Degree. Irene taught in the rural schools at Elder Grove School, St Cloud; Longfellow School, Lamartine; and Taft Elementary School, Highway 23, east.

She then started teaching at Lakeshore Elementary School in the Fond du Lac School System where she was a third grade teacher until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of St. Catholic Church, Fond du Lac, where she was also a CCD teacher from 1976 to 1986. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Associates of St Agnes, Wisconsin Retired Educators Association, and the Homiston Homemakers. On July 1, 1942, she married Edmund Gilgenbach at St.

Catholic Church, St. Joe. The couple farmed in the Lamartine area for over 40 years. She also helped on the farm and raised six beautiful children. She was the ultimate giver to everyone she encountered.

Ed and Irene gave a home to two foster boys and sponsored many children in the Near East. Irene is survived by her six children. They are James (Marilyn Nett) Gilgenbach from Fond du Lac; Diane (Larry) Hammang from Fond du Lac; Ronald (Cathy Hayden) Gilgenbach from Ann Arbor, MI; Janet (Alan) Halvorson from Hillsboro, OR; Catherine (James) Burr from White Sulphur Springs, WV; and Edmund (Christine Schuessler) Gilgenbach of Fond du Lac. She had 18 grandchildren. They are Daniel (Julie Kloostra) Gilgenbach of Fond du Lac, WI; Barbara (Troy) Baalke of Plover, WI; Karl (Kristin Arnold) Gilgenbach of Rochester Hills, MI; Jeanne (Joseph) Biber of Cedarburg, WI; Jayme (Jonathan) Bosler of Bronx, NY; Philip (Julie Marcoe) Walgenbach of Fond du Lac; Amy Walgenbach of Fond du Lac; Ryan Walgenbach of Fond du Lac; Karen Gilgenbach of Waukesha, WI; Matthew (Joanne Bagulbagul) Gilgenbach of Canoga Park, CA; Andrea (Eric) Young of Novi, MI; Cassandra (Dan) Syverson of Tualatin, OR; James Carl Burr IV of White Sulphur Springs, WV; Margaret (David) Scottberg of Mequon, WI; Stephan Gilgenbach of Denver Elizabeth Gilgenbach of Denver, CO; Edmund (Ashley Hunter) Gilgenbach of Denver, CO; and Richard Gilgenbach of Fond du Lac.

She had 16 great-grandchildren. They are Eric and Maya Gilgenbach; Samuel and Kayla Baalke; Emma and Josef Kloiber; Wyatt, Lucille, Phineas and Elliot Bosler; Jacob and Kayla Walgenbach; Hailey and Payton Walgenbach; Gabrielle Scottberg, and Madelyn Syverson. She is also survived by a sister, Joan Birkholz of Milwaukee, WI, and a brother, Aloysius SteCes of West Bend, WI; as well as three sisters-in-law: Marjorie SteCes of Apple Valley, MN; Joan SteCes of West Bend; and Victoria SteCes of Milwaukee, WI. She was preceded in death, by her husband, Edmund Gilgenbach, her parents William and Mattie SteCes, her siblings Sylvester SteCes, Jane Hammer, Robert SteCes, Lucille SteCes, Herbert SteCes, her brothers-in- law Joseph Hammer and Jerald Birkholz, her sister- in-law, Beverly SteCes, and two foster children, James and Thomas Culshaw. The visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division Fond du Lac. An additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 24 from p.m. at St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac.

Francis Home. Zacherl Funeral Home and Crematory of Fond du Lac is serving the family. www.zacherlfuneralhome. com Gilgenbach, Irene C. Wilma Irene Vis, age 96 of Brandon, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Manor in Brandon, WI, surrounded by her loving family.

Billie was born on August 1, 1917, in Lela, OK, a daughter of Edward and Mary (Beeman) Baggett. She was the last survivor of their ten children. Billie moved to Wisconsin to work as a nanny and housekeeper. On August 31, 1938, she was united in marriage to Bernice Vis in Waupun. Billie farmed with her husband in the Brandon area for many years.

She worked seasonally for the Fairwater Canning Company. She was a hard worker and when her husband could not farm due to poor health, Wilma took over the operation. She loved her family, remembering every birthday and anniversary with her fantastic memory, and also praying for her entire family every day. Billie enjoyed telling jokes and playing games, especially scrabble which she always won. She also had a card club and taxied many of her friends around town.

In her later years, she volunteered at the Waupun Senior Center, helping out with the noon meals. Billie was a self taught harmonica player, an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Billie was a longtime member of Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon. She was preceded in death by Bernie Vis, her husband of nearly 50 years in 1988; a daughter, Marilyn Miller, a grandson in infancy, Larry Miller; two sons-in-law, Don Darnick and Tom Coburn; seven sisters, Agnes Grennell, Elsa Lassman, Neva Smith, Lola Van Loo Hopp, Cleo Brinkman, Edith Swonger, Dorothy Leberak; and two brothers, Harley and Rolland Baggett. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Bethel Reformed Church, 305 W. Main Street, Brandon, with Pastor John Tilstra Burial will be in the Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun. family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, June 23, from 5 8 P.M.
