George Sherbon, who was reported missing in action over Romania since May 31, 1944. A part of the letter information has been received, indicating that Sgt.

Sherbon was a member of a B-24 Liberator bomber which departed from Italy on a bombardment mission to Ploesti, Romania, on May 31. Details are not available, the HEADACHE I I uw MM report indication that your son's Liberator was last seen at about 9:30 a. m. in the vicinity of Tar- gujiu, Romania, at which time the plane sustained damage and left the formation. The circumstances surrounding its disappearance are unknown; therefore, the foregoing constitutes all information presently available." A communication from the 15th Air Force headquarters, in Italy states that Sgt.

Sherbon has been awarded the Air Medal. From the time he began service in Italy in February, 1944, he flew 18 combat missions over France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania and Yugoslavia. Sgt. Sherbon attended Coshocton high school and Roosevelt Aviation school. Prior to his entry into the service on Feb.
