THE l3Wsa- Sandy Neese named to PplyGram post ROBERT K. OKRM ANN Slap Writer Sandy Neese has been hired as Director of Communications for Po-lyGram Records' Nashville office. The former MTM Records publicist and Tennessean music reporter was announced as the label's new Music Republic relations executive yesterday by Paul Lucks, the vice president and general manager of the international record company's Nashville office. 'Sandy has been a strong presence in Nashville," Lucks said. "We are indeed lucky to have her talents on board.

We've got a terrific team heading into 1989." Neese's appointment comes in the wake of announcements that Steve Popovich was not renewing his contract as chief executive, that hit record producer Harold Shedd has been hired to head the label's creative department and that publicist Martha Moore has resigned. Through its Mercury Records division, PolyGram markets the recordings of such superstars as Johnny Cash, Lynn Anderson, Kris Kristof fer-son, Mel Tillis, The Statler Brothers and Tom T. Hall. During the Country Week Convention last month the label won the Single of the Year CMA Award for 18 Wlieelsand a Dozen Roses by Kathy Mattea. Its "new breed" country acts include David Lynn Jones, Larry Boone, Butch Baker and The Bama Band.

Also on the roster are Donna Meade, The Burch Sisters, Charly McCain and Wayne Massey. Yesterday was Neese's day on the job. A native of Greenville, she moved to Nashville after graduation from the University of Tennessee in 1966.

Her first jobs were as a song demo singer for Ed Bruce and Kristoffer-son. After a brief stint as a songwriter, she worked in radio at WMAK, then as a free-lance publicist. In 1976 she became executive assistant to Charlie Daniels in which capacity she coordinated his Volunteer Jams from 1977 to 1982. She was a music reporter at The Tennessean 1982-85 and was the 1984 SESAC Journalistic Achievement award winner. She also co-hosted Music Row Video, the city's first country video clip TV program.

She has been with MTM for the past 3 12 years.
