Rainfall amounts during the predawn hours generally were less than an inch-moderate by normal standards, but light compared with the downpours Thursday which ranged up to 11 Inches north of Corpus Shower activity was more widespread across the country than a day earlier, too, scattering a pattern of dampness from the southern plains across the Ohio Valley and into the northeast. The pocket of turbulence over Texas Thursday dumped 6 inches of rain on the town of Papalote, 30 miles north of Corpus in only 45 minutes during the afternoon.

Heavy rains earlier in the day brought the 12-hour total of 11 inhes. Three persons drowned and a fourth died in a traffic accident blamed on the weather in Texas. Showers and thundershowers developed in the mild air ahead of the front. Rainfall amounts varied, up to 1.4 inch at Cincinnati. At daybreak today the front had moved to the southeastern edge of the state. A new low center developing in the Texas- Oklahoma area will move north eastward along the front causing rain or showers to spread back over Ohio Saturday.

Temperatures in Ohio early this morning were in the 40s northwest. Elsewhere they were in the mid and lower 50s. No great changes in temperature are likely tonight or Saturday. OHIO FIVE DAY FORECAST Temperatures will average near normal Saturday through Wednesday with only minor day-to-day changes. Highs will average in the 60s to low 70s and lows in the upper 40s and low 50s.

Virgil Pierce, outgoing post commander, will be service officer. Watson was a corporal in the 226th Anti-Aircraft Searchlight Battalion during World War II and served 18 months In the European Theatre of Operations. He entered the service In January of 1943 and was discharged in January of 1946.

A graduate of New Philadelphia High and Purdue University, he is a safety engineer for Markel Service Inc. of Richmond, Va. His wife is the former Eleanor Lightell, and they have 2 daughters, Lynn and Cindy. Watson is a member of the following organizations: Elks, Masons, Exchange and Coin clubs, the Ohio and Pennsylvania Councils of Safety Supervisors, Tuscarawas County White Shrine, and treasurer of State Highway Patrol Auxiliary. The Watsons are members of New Philadelphia Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Funk Jr. and Watson were selected as delegates for next year's conferences and conventions. George Rutledge will be fourth convention delegate and alternates will be William Metzger and Les Cole.

Dover Library Budget Is Hiked Norman Wefczel, who will assume duties June 1 as head librarian of the Dover Public Library, attended a board of trustees meeting Thursday in the library auditorium. A temporary budget appropriation of $55,000 approved for the next fiscal year is an increase of $7000 over this year's budget of $48,000. Reports were given by Marilyn Lab, acting librarian, and board members who attended an Ohio Library Assn. workshop at Kent State University last month. Next meeting is June 6 at 3:30 p.m.

A $198,600 grant has been obtained from the federal government, which was made possible through the Ohio Bureau of Urban Affairs. Suburban University Branch Reopens PARIS (UPI) Paris University officials said today they planned to reopen the suburban branch of the university which, with the ancient Sorbonne University, has been the center of bloody student riots' this week. The branch at Nanterre was closed a week ago because of student protests, and the Sorbonne was shut down the following day. The closings sparked riots that left more than 1,000 persons injured and hundreds arrested.
