The Erie Methodist Coi ference meets at Brookvilie this week the usual business of such a gathe ng will be transacted. New Castle, of a general interest in the doings ot this meeting of divines, has a ial interest in one thing, and that is in ministers who shall be sent to take cat of the two flockBin this city. Rev. Holmes, ot the First church, will in all probability be returned, as he has just coi dieted his first year and three years generally given a minister. During th ear Rev.

Holmes has won for himsel place in the hearts ot not only his congregation but of the community in general. A deep thinker, a brilliant orator possessed strong veins ot pathos and wit, a kindhearted and pleasant gentleman, he has gathered about him a circle of friends who will be glad to welcome him on the threshold of his second year. The return of Dr. Johnson, ol the Pearson street church, is probable, but though he has been here only two years his removal to another pulpit is not an impossibility. That his congregation desires his return unanimously there can be no doubt, and it is equally true that the community at large would gladly welcome him back.

When Dr, Johnson was admitted into the Erie Conference at its meeting in this city two years ago, that able man, Bishop Foster, paid a high tribute to his worth as a Christian gentleman and an able minister, for he said he had known him for years. Dr. Johnson made his power felt in less than a month alter his coming here, and in less than two months he had caused to be abated the campmeeting, which had degenerated almost to a nuisance. Harnsbuig made a loud clamor for his services and placed before him the tempting offer $2,000 a year, but Dr. Johnson replied, we are told: I am not preaching iur money This answer is a true indication of the character of Dr.

Johnson and his sincerity in his profession. He is an aggressive man naturally, and through his ability, rightfully a leader, and being thus he has not escaped calumny of the blackest kind; but those who know him best, and who know his motives, will be most anxious to see him again fill the pulpit at the Pearson street church. luipcuding Danger. The recent statistics of the number of deaths show that a large majority die with Consumption. This disease may commence with an apparently harmless cough which can be cured instantlv by Balsam for the Throat' and Lungs, which is guaranteed to cure and relieve all cases.

A large audience was present. Wampum sent a large delegation to the mass meeting of the Prohibitionists at Rock Point to-day (Tuesday). Our people are greatly interested in this question. The school bids fair to be a success this term. Frank Zeiger, the Youngstown ore man, was in town last week, overseeing the improvements on the ore road. When completed this ore read will be one of the best in the country. The banks have ceased operation until the road is completed. Dr.

Chewton, will build a large barn on his place near here. He has purchased the New Mill at New Castle and has had the structure torn down. It was placed on the cars en Saturday and will arrive here on Tuesday on the Ft. Wayne road. It is said that fish pond is so full of German Carp that it is simply impossible to row a boat in the pond.

Mr. Craig started in some four years ago with some six or eight ten-inch carp, and now has fish in hia pond that weigh all the way up to 18 pounds. He sells the privilege of catching them. Ed. Powell, of Wurtemburg, always heard that earthquakes were severe near rivers, and the night after the earthquake he came over to see if there was a certain house shaken down.

Ed, is guarding the house very strictly just now. It will be a cold day if earthquake captures Ed. or his girl. Rev. Morris preached his farewell sermon in the Wampum M.

E. Church Sunday morning to a large congregation. Mr. Morns has done good work here and his congregation wish him success wherever he may go. He has made many triends here.

It is said that a petition has been sent to conference for his return. Extensive improvements are being made on the ore road, by which limestone and iron ore can both be shipped at the same point. When these improvements are made it will be the means of increasing the shipping facilities as well as to give a large number ot men employment. It is thought that the company will pay the hands about the 20th. A young man who pitches for the Clinton base ball club, and who resides there, was walking across the culvert near Clinton, across the E.

Sumner, the Kennedys, Samuel and Edward, and Harris Houk resume work again in Trigg ore bank. This is said to be an excellent crew in a mine, and in fact are good workers anywhere.

Trigg Sons want twenty miners. They will pay cash on or before the 20th of each month; no store orders unless wanted by the miners themselves. Work will be sure at least for the winter, and doubtless longer. An infant daughter of Robert and Rachel Majors, of this place, died last Friday night one week ago of cholera fantum. Heaven now if not so.

Religion frenzy, hope were vain And Heaven a coinage of the human It seems to us real strange that if there is such a wholesale stealing of ore by weighing it at Chewton, as is said to be. why men, or a man, or anything else is allowed to go ahead. It seems to us that if anyone were to steal or cheat us out of tons of ore and repeat it, we would, if we had evidence, jump onto him with both feet, legally speaking. We notice in he ews that the ers make $6 a day and only allow the feeders $1.35 per day. Is this not carrying out the same principle among the laborers themselves that capital is charged with doing with the share? If the article is true, labor should correct oppression and stop lioggishness in their own ranks.

eh? Miners desiring work should come here and take a look at Trigg mines. The mines at this place have been opening and shutting down so often that miners seem to be doubtful about coming here. Mr. Richard Trigg, head of the firm of Trigg Sons, informed us this morning that it no providential interference occurred they would positively run all winter and perhaps next summer.
