G1LMEU MIRROR. Gilmer. Texas IX-c. 30, 1W5 Recent Deaths Services for Mrs. Towery Held Sunday Funeral services for Mrs.

Mattie Lula Towery, 86, of Rt. 1, Gilmer, were held Sunday, Dec. 26 at 2:30 p.m. at the" Croley Chapel. Carl Tyson officiated.

Interment was in the West Mountain Cemetery. Mrs. Towery had lived in Upshur County most of her life and was married to O. A. Towery, who preceded her in death in 1958.

She was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by two sons; Loyd, Dallas and Glen Towery, Gilmer; two brothers; S. D. Bruton, and G. M.

Bruton of Denison; also three sisters; Mrs. Minnie Gilstrap, Ardmore, Mrs. Ada Collensworth, Tyler, and Mrs. Effie Safin, Oakland, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Clinton Clark, Lynn Bowden, Carl Sorrells, Raybert McCrary, Johnnie Blear, and Seth Bowden.

Ros Phillips Mr. Erasus (Ras) Phillips, Rt. 1, West Mountain Community, died Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Holiday Lodge Nursing Home in Longview. He was 91 years, 10 months, and 21 days old.

He was born Jan. 25, 1874 in West Mountain Commun- ity and lived here all his life. He was a member of the West Mountain Church of Christ for 35 years. His wife, the former Miss Sallie Yandle, preceded him in death in July of 1959. He is survived by one sister, Mrs.

C. A. Browning, Baylown, and a number of I nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Croley Chapel Dec. 17.

Carl Tyson officiated. Interment was in the West Mountain Cemetery. Active were Henry Harlan, Loyd Towery, Carl Sorrells, Louis Phillips, John D. Reeves, and Clinton Clark. J.

H. Tuel Funeral services for Joseph H. Tuel, 67, of Rt. 4 Gilmer, were held Mon. Dec.

27, at Enon Baptist Church. Mr. Tuel died Saturday, Dec. 25 at Ragland-Fenlaw Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Christene, five daughters; Mrs.

Zorine Hare, New Mexico, Mrs. Madell Crawford, Ft. Worth, Mrs. Sue Dilley, Grapevine, Mrs. Jean Hays, Duncan, and Mrs.

Faye Smith, Diana; three brothers; Earl Tuel, Longview, and Pete Sullivan; two sisters; Mrs. Bertha Blount, Gilmer, and Mrs. Mamie Smith, Dallas; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Rev. Duane Turner and Rev.

Douglas Thomas officiated. Burial was in the Enon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Troy Tuel, Rex Tuel, Paul Tuel, Billy Tuel and O'Neal Tuel. C. J.

Jones Coleman J. Jones of the Kelsey community died Dec. 14, at his residence. He was 77 years, 10 months, and 24 days old. Born in Booneville, but had live in Upshur County for about 65 years.

He was a retired farmer and public worker. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Beaulah, one son, Ocie Jones, Crockett; four daughters, Mrs. Juanita Steelman, Gilmer, Mrs. Julia Mae Davis, Nacogdoches, Mrs.

Byron Williams, Carthage, and Mrs. Nell Gorman, Gilmer; three sister, Mrs. Artie Bell Willis, Gilmer, Mrs. Clyde Slocum, Dallas, and Mrs. Sudie Dugger; six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Little Mound Baptist Church Dec. 16. The Revs. J. I.

Cartlidge and Balford Adams officiated. Interment was in the Little Mound Cemetery. Pallbearers were Hershcl Mumphrey, Cleon Jones, Levi Dugger, Jerry Slocum, Billy Joe Davis, and Ted Smith. Susie Smith Mrs. Susie Mae Smith, 1201 W.

River Oaks, Longview, died Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Holiday Lodge Nursing Home in Longview. She was 76 years, 10 months, and 16 days old. Born Jan. 31, 1889 in Upshur County and lived here most of her life before moving to Longview.

She was a member of the Baptist Church. Her husband preceded her in death in 1929. She is survived by two sons; Buster Smith of Diana, and Jewel Smith of Fort Worth; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Somter, Arlington, and Mrs. Dessie Scroggins, Longview; three sisters, Mrs.

Maggie Wimberly, Hughes Springs, Mrs. Ola Couch, Hughes Springs, and Mrs. Lou Lang, Homer, 27 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Croley Chapel Dec. 18.

The Revs. Steve Castloo and Mike Bowen officiated. Interment was in the City Cemetery. Grandsons acted as palllpearers. Mrs.

Sparkmon Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Oneta Sparkman, Gilmer, were held at Croley Chapel Dec. 21. Interment was at Smyrna Cemetery in Wood County. The Rev.

Glen Carroll officiated. Mrs. Sparkman died Dec. 19 in Gilmer Convalescent Center. She was 76.

She has been a resident of Upshur County since 1907 and was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by four sons, Windell Sparkman, Glenwood, Orise Sparkman and Leo Sparkman, Longview, and Richard Sparkman, Attic, Kansas; four daughters, Mrs. Agnes Shirley, and Mrs. Geneva Witcher, Glenwood, Mrs. Mildred Coston, Longview, and Mrs.

Ruby Bradley, Shreveport; and two brothers, Calvin Thacker and George Thacker, both of Winnsboro. Pallbearers were Bob Shirley, Arthur Shirley, Bill Shirley, Joe W. Pickett, Clifton Morrow, W. R. Nugent, Glen Nevill, and Charles Pickett.
