"Rockin' 39," as it once was called, will be no more. Perkins said the Odyssey music videos will be axed, and beginning Monday, Nov.

4, the station will add a locally produced country-music video show hosted by Roy Sneed. Sneed at one time worked on the old "Cas Walker Show" out of Knoxille and will introduce the country videos live from the Channel 39 studios, from noon to 1 p.m. and again from p.m. Monday through Friday. Also new to the schedule will be Perkins' own daily talk show, as yet unnamed.

The show, which also will be broadcast live, will air from 10 to 11 a.ra weekdays, leading in to "The Roy Sneed Country Showcase." 4 Channel 39 also will return to "the good, old-fashioned way of doing mov ies" with a host for its 9 pm-midnight double feature. "And I don't mean Elvira," Hudson said with a laugh. Perkins said the movies will be oi(j-time classics, with stars like Bette, Davis, Orson Welles, Randolph Gene Tierney and Merle Oberon. On Saturdays, the station plans to air Qld horror movies Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff. Other details of Channel 39's new schedule are still being worked out, according to Perkins, and will be announced shortly.

4 Television Writer Channel 39 has a new name today: WHTN-TV. The old call letters, WFYZ, are now history, and the new designation becomes part of a total revamp of the Murfreesboro UHF station under its new owners. Also announced yesterday were preliminary programming plans, Including a live weekday talk show and a ciassic movie double-feature Monday through'Friday, beginning Nov. 4. "The call letters really have no significance," Bob Hudson, coowner of the station along with Jerry and Ann Goad, said yesterday, discounting any theories that the HTN might stand for "Hudson Television Network." "I'm not that much of an egotist" Instead, he said, WHTN is one of the few combinations of letters still-available.

With the emergence of low-power TV stations, there's been a run on call lettersand Hudson said all the ones he and his partners liked had already been taken. "Finally I just went to our FCC attorney and said 'Come up with something that's available." As required by the Federal Communications Commission, Hudson said, the call letters were introduced on the air yesterday, immediately after the official notification. During a transitional period, the station's promotional ads will read "formerly WFYZ, how the all-new WHTN." But Hudson said he's not going to play up the call letters: "Television 39 is what we're really pushing." Meanwhile, the grand diva of that Friday night soap opera, the venerable Jane Wyman, is deeply unhappy about the increasing emphasis on the younger characters, a new accent that she believes could alienate the aged-40-and-up viewers that have made "Falcon Crest" a top-10 show for the last three years. Call it "The Plague of 'Miami With the NBC popop show now attracting a burgeoning audience of loyalists, "Falcon Crest" stands a very real chance of getting beaten in the popularity derby for the first time since premiering in 1981. And so in an attempt to offset the youth-appeal of "Vice," CBS is injecting a ton of Pepsi Generation fluff into the "Falcon Crest" storyline and the 71-year-old Wyman is doing everything she can to protect her considerable on-camera exposure.

"The estate known as Falcon Crest is the building upon which the story is constructed," she declared, "and my character, Angela Channing, is the most crucial part of the architecture." This season's "Falcon Crest" youth-bubble includes everything from the signing of that brittle bottle-blonde, Morgan Fairchild, to the hiring of ragtag rock music mediocrity Appolonia Kotero. In addition, the program will concentrate more heavily on the adventures of the callow Lance, as portrayed by the wooden Lorenzo Lamas. To Jane Wyman, this is war. And although she studiously refuses to name her own young co-stars specifically, she holds a very low opinion of the talent and work habits of the kids she works with. "When I started in this business many years ago, the most important thing was to learn your craft," Wyman said.
