The Mental Health Association of Middle Tennessee is holding a free, anonymous screening test for anyone, regardless of age, as part of National Depression Screening Day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the Pastoral Counseling Center ot Brentwood, 309 Franklin Road, in the house behind Brentwood United Methodist Church. Some of the warning signs for depression include feelings of sadness, loss of pleasure in usual activities, changes in sleep and appetite, loss of energy, restlessness, feelings of hopelessness, helplessness and worthlessness and thoughts of death or suicide.

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Seniors Group, where she participated in many activities, is holding a grief discussion beginning at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the FranklinWilliamson County Recreation Complex for those who want to remember her kind nature. "She had a lot of friends here so we decided that anyone who wanted to come and let their feelings out could.

When she met with the seniors group, Warpinski enjoyed playing cards with the other seniors and taking part in other activi ties, including the trips and potluck lunches. "She was just a great lady. Florence had a core group of friends here who really cared about her," Genualdi said. Family and other friends are also welcome to come and participate.

The 75-year-old Franklin woman dropped from the 155-foot-tall span straddling Highway 96 West last Thursday morning just as a Williamson County Sheriff's deputy approached the bridge. The suicide was the first for the Natchez Trace landmark, which opened in 1996. A funeral mass for Warpinski will be held at 10 a.m. today in St. Philip Catholic Church with Father Edward Arnold as celebrant.

Like the Ryder Cup, the Presidents Cup is played under the match-play format, which is golfs oldest form of competition. In match play, each hole is a separate contest, and the winner of the match is the player who wins the most holes. If there is any more exciting form of golf than match play, I would like to know what it is. There is so much emotion involved in the head-to-head combat of match play.

Sometimes it can feel as it the game has turned into a boxing match, with one player reeling and falling back on the ropes. But then, suddenly, a golfer who is down on his luck can hole a long putt and deflate his opponent while elevating his own mood. You've probably heard it said that the journey is the destinatioa Match play makes that journey an enriching experience. For one thing, it helps us realize that golf is really just a game. Each hole is its own story.

And while it contributes to the end result, we need not concern ourselves with the conse- Page special teams turn fun on full blast quences of making a big number on any given hole. There are so many factors to consider in match play, which is exactly what makes it so thrilling. Any golfer engaged in this form of competition knows that he or she takes the match personally, more so than stroke play. We want the tension, perhaps because we know we are playing something where there is no life and death. This is also true of the Presidents Cup competitors, who must learn to commit to a shot, hit it and then forget it.
