FARMERS' WEEK FRUIT SHOW The 1923 Farmers' Week, Columbia, Missouri, under the joint auspices of the State Board of Agriculture and College of Agriculture, will have au added attraction in the Fruit and Potato Show, including nuts and flowers, valuable prizes being offered down to the third place in each class. Exhibitors will address the Horticultural Club, College of Agriculture, Columbia, Missouri.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Methodist Church by Rev. Winfree. Remains were taken to Girard, Iilinois, Monday, accompanied by Sam Jackson and Miss Beatrice Smith a cousin from Carlynville, Illinois, who had been called here on account of his illness. A full obituary will pear in next week's issue of this paper. PIONEER OF THIS SECTION PASSES AWAY AT BONNE TERRE Upon receipt of a telegram Friday, stating of the serious illness of his grandmother.

Mrs. Matilda E. Gunn, of Bonne Terre, Missouri, D. E. Crites left for that place Saturday, returning Monday.

He reports his -grandmother passed away Monday morning. She was past 86 years old and was a former resident of this county and one of the pioneers of this section, A full obituary will appear later. SALE OF MORE ROAD BONDS Jefferson City, Dec. 20 To the First National Company of St. Louis was delivered this week the second of the $5,000,000 of the $60,000,000 of the road fund voted by the people of Missouri to con struct a system of Highways.

All the eight bids received by the Fund Commission, composed of Governor Hyde, Attorney General Barrett and State Treasurer Thompson, were below par, the successful bid being for $4,978,000 The commission is well pleased over the sale as they had not pected anything like par bids on the short term issue. All the second issue of the road bonds will mature and be retired before any of the first issue of matures. This was made possible by the estimated excess in the receipts from the sale of motor vehicle licenses during the ensuing, three years. Xmas Post Cards at Glen Kingens. A large Christmas program prepared by the children of the nore school will be given at the High School Auditorium at 7 o'clock Christmas Eve. J. S. Durfey and wife and Miss Abba Hamilton who have been visiting at the A. E. Whiteside home, left Saturday for Los Angeles California.

They expect to return in the spring. Creamery Butter at Glen Kingens. LEON DAY OVERCOME BY GAS Word was received here Monday of the sudden death of Leon Day, youngest child (near 20 of age) of the late Wm. and Mrs. Celia Day, former residents of this place.

DRY VALLEY AND NEW HOPE TIE IN SPELLING- MATCH The pupils of the Dry Valley school motored over to New Hope a ward school of the Fremont District, last Friday evening for a spelling match. Owing to an cident wherein one of the Dry Valley spellers was seriously injured one of the New Hope spellers did not spell, leaving only five in each team. Both schools spelled well and were evenly matched as was shown by the score which was 69 and 69. New Hope spelled Dry Valley some three weeks ago and the score was 59 to 60 in favor of Dry Valley.

Another match between the two schools will be held in the near future. CROMMER TOWN SCHOOL REPORT The following is the report of the Crommer Town school for the month ending December 15, 1922. Enrollment, male 15; female 21; total 36. Total number of days attended by all pupils, 540 1-2; average number of pupils attending euch day, 27 1-40; Number attending every day 6. Number whose parents, one or both, had formerly gone to school to this teacher 24.

Number who have been present each day this term, 2, viz. Donald Kelley and Odie Eaton. Recommendations and needs, fire shovel, window glass and door lock. W. N.
