I and product www.tennessean.com THE TENNESSEAN Monday, July 24, 2000 11W WILLIAMSON: COMMUNITY NEWS DEATHS Franklin woman dies after horseback riding incident Building: Height variance OK'd for Highlands complex FROM PAGE 1W will be six stories and 140,216 square feet on 9.5 acres, approximately 500 feet south of Cool Springs Boulevard. A Height Overlay District is already present on all three of that intersection's corners. Pat Emery, regional vice president for Crescent Resources the Charlotte, N.C.-based company that developed the neighboring Corporate Centre complex, has said he isn't crazy about acreage becoming part of the Height Overlay District, partly because it may inhibit the view of his up-andcoming 300-acre office park known as Parkway Centre. Emery has said he likely will request a Height Overlay District for Parkway Centre if the city approved one for the Highwoods Properties. The master plan for the 270-plus-acre site, which lies directly south of Crescent's 3-year-old Corporate Centre office complex, shows at least three two- to three-story office buildings going up in the first phase.

Also part of the initial phase is a $2 million, halfmile extension of Carothers Parkway to the south to accommodate the first three buildings, as well as the next three planned for phase two, Emery said. The conceptual plan for the Highwoods office complex shows one 10-story office building on 14.41 acres, and two six-story buildings, each on 9 acres. Also included are two 1-acre out-parcels and a parking deck with 652 spaces. Directly neighboring the proposed office complex is the upand-coming, 12-story Embassy Suites Hotel and three six-story Corporate Centre buildings, all of which are currently in the city's Height Overlay District. The Nashville-based Highwoods Properties currently is building Cool Springs II, an eight-story, office building adjacent to the Cool Springs Marriott hotel.

A year ago the company opened the six-story, Cool Springs I office building near the same spot. Highwoods also has built out more than 1 million square feet of office space in Maryland Farms, and about 1.5 million square feet in the West End area of Davidson County. FRANKLIN Carol Ann Lee, 40, of Franklin, died Saturday from head injuries sustained in a horseback-riding accident Tuesday at her home. The funeral for Lee will be at 11 a.m. today at Belmont Church on 16th Avenue South in Nashville, with Pastor Don Finto officiating.

A family burial service will follow. Visitation was held Sunday, and continues one hour before the service today at the church. Harpeth Hills Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Lee was riding a horse with her younger daughter, Sarah Kate, on a hillside above the family's house on their 800-acre ranch in Fernvale when the horse stumbled and a stirrup broke. We're just praying that God will take that visual picture out of (Sarah Kate's) mind," said Kim Jensen, a longtime family friend. Family and friends prayed for four days by Lee's bedside at Vanderbilt Hospital as churches and organizations around the world lent their spiritual support. Singer and family friend Michael W. Smith even sent a plane to Texas to retrieve Lee's older daughter, Jessica, who was on a youth mission trip at the time of her mother's accident. The vigil provided a reunion Lee would have been proud of, Jensen said.
