3 www.tenne5sean.com THE TENNESSEAN Wednesday, August 29, 2001 7C Herrera prefers coming off bench behind Ofenheusle By CHRIS LOW and BRAD SHEPARD Staff Writers KNOXVULE The Tennessee coaches haven't decided who will start at right offensive tackle Saturday against Syracuse. But Anthony Herrera, one of the two candidates for the job, cast his vote for the other guy- "I hope Will Ofenheusle starts. I really do," Herrera said. "I think I'll be better coming off the bench. I think it gives me an extra advantage because I'm a little more nervous equation.

Fulmer is still not completely satisfied with what he's seen from his tackles during the presea-soa "We've been more inconsistent than Td like," Fulmer said. "It's not that anybody is playing poorly, but nobody has stepped out and played outstanding yet" Taking I slow: For the second straight day since his return from a sore hamstring, Kelley Washington worked out exclusively with the quarterbacks, saving the added pres sure from his tender leg. "I basically know at wide receiver what's going on," Washington said. 'Tm in a position right now where I don't really have to work as hard as I can at receiver. I can rest my leg." Washington, who said he was '70 or 75 percent," isn't being pressured by the coaches to return prematurely.

"We want him out there and playing like we believe he can play," said offensive coordinator Randy Sanders. "But if he goes out there and hurts it again, it may be six weeks, eight weeks or maybe the whole season before he gets it welL We're not overlooking anybody or anything like that, but it's a long sea-soa" Kendrick, rifles questionable: Senior defensive tackle Ed Kendrick dislocated his left shoulder yesterday in practice and is questionable for Saturday's game. Also, junior cornerback Willie Miles re-aggravated his back injury and had to leave practice. It was only Miles' second day back in full pads after injuring his back and being carted from the field two weeks ago. If Kendrick can't play, the Vols will be thin at tackle.

Albert Haynesworth suffered a sprained MCL in his knee last week. Fulmer hopes to have Haynesworth available for the game, but isn't sure. Rashad Moore will start at tackle alongside John Hendersoa leaving junior college signee Aubrayo Franklin as the only healthy and I try a little harder. If just something about me. I don't know what it is." Herrera will share the reps in the game regardless of who starts, and Coach Phillip Fulmer said Herrera's versatility would help him get plenty of action against the In fact, Fulmer envisions playing all four tackles Saturday.

Reggie Coleman will start on the left side, but Sean Young also factors into the SCOREBOARD Compiled by Candice McCallie MLS dance Gaelle Sidot, France, 6-4, 7-6 (6).
