The ex-Lion boss was Pirootin' Around This columa is written by the new owner and publisher of The Deming NewspapersThe Deming Headlight and Deming Graphic. 'Pirootin' Around" has appeared in the left hand column of front pages of several newspapers over more years like to admit. In it we do most of our bragging and scolding, boosting and back-patting, complimenting and cajoling.

There will always be many who will disagree with the opinions expressed here and a few who will approve. One thing is certain. most every reader of these newspapers will reed it not because it is good, but to see what they can find to cuss the editor about. it will never be a highliterary effori because the skimpy education which this son of am Ozark Mountain (Missouri) country editor eked out didn't equip him for that sort of writing. Bui there will never be any doubt in the minds of our readers as to what we mean when they read it here.

So here we go againchapter Gale of volume 36, or thereabouts. We feel a bit like the Old Maid who, upon the proposal of marriage from an eligible batchelor had been trying to rope for years exclaimed, "This is so sudden." We've heen visiting Deming and thinking of entering the publishing field here for several years. When we started negotiations with General Sage we figured it would be a leisurely, dickering sort horseswap and that maybe we'd take over in October or November if indeed we finally made a deal. But, "twarn't so and we should have known better. In our youth we were taught the game of cribbage- and quite flittle poker--by retired Army Colonel.
