Hem, Estherville, Iowa, Daily News, Friday, Feb. 13, 1970 3 Estherville Youths Inducted into Army Three Estherville youths were inducted into the Army Tuesday morning, reports Draft Board Secretary Mrs. Harold Reed. Inducted were Gary F. Larson, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Maurice Larson; James E. Tendal, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Tendal; and John W.

Vandevantcr, son of Wayne and Tillie vantcr, Before they left for Sioux Falls, S.D., where they were sworn in, the inductees and their families were served breakfast by the American Legion. They also received gifts from the Legion Auxiliary. All three will take their basic training at Ft. Lewis, Wash. Smash Car An estimated $237 damage to both sides of a car parked in the Estherville High School parking lot Wednesday was blamed on vandals.

It was reported to police that the vandals kicked in the door and fenders on both sides of the 1963-model car owned by Robert Charles Miller of Arnolds Park late Wednesday night- Miller discovered the damage when he returned to his car after a dance held at the school. The incident is being investigated by the police department. Coffee House The new mayor of Estherville, Larry (Jake) Jacobsen, will be at the teen Coffee House this Saturday evening. The doors open at and Jacobsen will be present about 9 p.m. to discuss his plans for a Youth Advisory Council, so that the voice of youth might be heard ontheprob- lems of Estherville.

"Come and bring your ideas, questions, and suggestions for our mayor, who is taking his time to listen to youthi" a Coffee House spokesman commented. Students Honored An Estherville girl and four other area students attending Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., were among the 74 students at the school who ranked in the top 3.8 to 4.0 grade point category for the first semester. A 4.0 average is equivalent to straight "A's." Those listed are Ruth Beastrom, Estherville; Jeff Newlin, Armstrong; Linda Gries, Spencer; and Carol J. Duhn and Melodee Olson from Spirit Lake. Iowa Five-Day Forecast By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS The five day Iowa forecast for the period Friday through Tuesday calls for a cold trend at the beginning followed by a warming trend after Sunday. Precipitation will be at the beginning witli partially cloudy skies early next week. Temperatures will range from highs in the teens and 20s at the beginning to the 30s by Tuesday.

Lows will range from near zero Friday night to the teens by Tuesday. Muster Day The Estherville National Guard unit will observe its annual Muster Day Saturday with an open house from 4 to 9 p.m. The battery will also undergo inspection by the Fifth Army inspecting general from 1 to 4 p.m. Muster Day dates back to the days of the volunteer militia in which one day a year was set aside to have all members of the unit gather so that they could be counted, national guard officials explained. Mother-Son Banquet A Mother-Son Banquet will be hold at the United Methodist Church Monday, Feb.

16, at 6:30 p.m. It is for both young and older mothers and sons. Tickets will be available at the church office until Sunday noon. Is Promoted Thomas Peterson, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin C. Peterson, and wife, Mary, live in Armstrong, was promoted Dec. 18 to Army specialist four in Vietnam, where he is serving with the 4th Infantry Division.

The 21-year-old soldier is a rifleman in Company 3rd Battalion of the division's 12th Infantry near Pleiku. Joins Association GRAETTINGER Dr. Larry E. Cornelius of Graettinger has been selected for membership in the American Chiropractic Association, according to an announcement made this week at the organization's head quarters at Des Moines by Dr. G.

Fined were Lawrence Bruggeman, Larchwood, speeding, $10 and costs; Darrel Kueker, Estherville, no registration plates on vehicle, $10 and costs, and no lights on vehicle, $10 and costs; Richard Goeken, Everly, speeding, $10 and costs; Dennis Roeder, Estherville, speeding, $10 and costs; and Arne Rasmussen, Ringsted, consuming beer on a public highway, $25 and costs.

Personal Mention Receive Word Daughter Arrived in Uruguay The Clifford Clarks of Estherville received a cablegram from their daughter, Sharon, that she had arrived safely in Montevideo, Uruguay on Monday, Feb. 9. Miss Clark flew from Minneapolis at noon on Sunday to New York. She then flew to Rio De Janeiro and then on to Montevido, Uruguay. Miss Clark is a missionary with the Baptist World Mission.

She works in Uruguay with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pope of Fairmont, Minn, and Dorothea Onstott of Montana. On Monday, Feb, 15, they will be busy setting up their Summer Bible Camp program. MRS.

WAYNE WARE entertained at a surprise Valentine party for her mother, Mrs. Diamond Wilson. The guests were Mrs. Ann Frick, Mrs. Anna Raleigh, Mrs.

Marie Berven, and Mrs. Lenora Sidles. Breakfast rolls and coffee were served. The hostess gave Valentines as favors. MR.

AND MRS. STAN Thompson and family are moving into the John Powers home. They are coming from Dubuque and he is working for 'Golden Sun. The Powers family moved to Minneapolis, yesterday. MR.

Arnold J. Anliker of 403 S. 15th Estherville, has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex. He has been assigned to Sheppard AFB, for training as a medical services specialist. Airman Anliker is a 1965 graduate of Estherville High School and received his B.S.

Arthur Exon and several other relatives. Her daughter, Mrs. Betty Gorham, of Omaha, accompanied her on the trip. Mrs. Robinson visited a few days in Omaha before coming home.

MRS. EDA SUTTON, was 90 years old Wednesday. Her sister, Mrs. Frank Sutton, had a dinner for her at her home. Guests were Mr.

and Mrs. Albert Baird, Mrs. Ed Block, Owatona, Mr, and Mrs. Wayne Crim and Bill, Mr. and Mrs.

Kenneth Steveson. Mrs. Earl Armstrong, Mrs. Marion Peterson, Fairmont, and Mrs. Mildred Mathern, Tucson, Ariz, were guests earlier this week of Mrs.

Sutton's. Mrs. Mae Anderson was invited but unable to come. Cleo Sutton, son of Mrs. Sutton's called her from Dallas, Tex.

Bill Crim's birthday was also the same day. He is a grand nephew of Mrs. Sutton's. She received cards gifts and calls from other relatives from a distance. The Iowa Lakes Community College Wolves travel to Mason City Saturday evening to square off for the second duel of the season.

The last meeting of these two squads saw the game go into double overtime, with the Wolves finally squeezing out an 82-80 victory. The Northern Iowa Trojans can be expected to run a bit when in possession of the ball. Mason City can also be expected to be tough on the boards. (The first meeting of these cage squads netted each 48 rebounds.) Coach Jerry Holbrook hopes the Wolves will "play tough ball to offset the home court advantage." Holbrook also hopes to "stay out of foul trouble. Last game we had too many fouls." Graettinger Mr.

Hardin said here Thursday night. "Our responsibility as I conceive it," Hardin told a banquet meeting of the National Farm Institute, "is to manage the environment for the widest range of beneficial uses, without degrading it, without risks to health of safety, without loss of future productivity and without being tyrannized by pests."
