21 -Nov. 5 at Vanderbilt University. This year's theme, Stories from the Holocaust, will Include a panel of local survivors as well as national experts on the Holocaust, the destruction of 6 million European Jews during World War II at the hands of the Nazis. The first lecture will be at 8 p.m. Oct 21 by Fritz Stern, a scholar on modern German culture at Columbia University, who will speak on "The Holocaust In History and Memory." The lecture will be at Underwood Auditorium.

The German film The Nasty Girl, a dark comedy about a student's attempt to investigate her town's role in the Holocaust, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. and 9:25 p.m. on both Oct 22-23 at Sarratt Cinema. "Reflections of Nashville Survivors of the Holocaust" will be held at 4 p.m. Oct 28 at Sarratt Cinema.

Robert Abzug, an expert on the American role In the liberation of the Nazi death camps, will speak on "Imagining Survivors in Fact and Fiction" at 8 p.m. Oct 29 in Furman Hall, room 114. Abzug teaches history at the University of Texas. Aharon Appelfeld, a Holocaust survivor and novelistessayist will speak on "An Insight into the Holocaust Experience" at 8 p.m. Nov.

A Holocaust documentary, Eyes from the Ashes, based on a collection of 2,600 photographs and mementos confiscated from death camp inmates by Nazis, will be shown at 4 p.m. Nov. 5 at Sarratt Cinema. Eyes from the Ashes producer Ann Weiss, an independent filmmaker and the daughter of Polish survivors of the Holocaust, will present the film and speak about its production.

In 1986, she obtained access to the photographs used in the film. MADD to drivers: Tie one on for safety Mothers Against Drunk Driving will visit some 15,000 supermarkets nationwide this year to encourage holiday revelers to rethink the phrase "Tie one on." The push to curtail drinking during the holiday season will take place the weekends of Nov. 1-3 and Nov. 8-10. The volunteers will give shoppers a red ribbon Inside a coupon book, and ask motorists to "Tie One On For Safety." Tying a red ribbon to a car means the driver has pledged to drive safely and while sober, MADD officials say.

Reed has served as pastor of Nashville First Church of the Nazarene for 17 years, presiding over a congregation of more than 1,500.
