Life term in murder, robbery By TERRY BATEY Stale Writer CLARKSVILLE A Clarksvllle man was sentenced to life Imprisonment yesterday after being found guilty of helping rob and murder another man In a drug deal. Jurors deliberated less than two hours before finding David Howington, 26. guilty of first-degree murder In the Jan. 21 shooting death of Michael Trobaugh, 32, at the victim's 28 Huey Court residence. Prosecutors maintained during the trial, which began Monday In Montgomery County Circuit Court, that Howington conspired with Robert Anthony DeVlto, 33, of Clarksvllle, to rob and shoot Trobaugh during a drug deal.

DeVito's trial on first-degree murder charges Is tentatively set for January, said Assistant District Attorney General Steve Garrett. State officials did not seek the death penalty against Howington and said they do not plan to seek It against DeVito. Eric Farley, a state witness testifying Tuesday under unconditional Immunity, said that he had arranged for Trobaugh to buy three to 10 pounds of marijuana from DeVlto for 1,400 per pound. Farley said he, DeVlto and Howington talked about robbing Trobaugh. Howington sat silently and tears filled his eyes when the verdict was read yesterday.

He admitted during testimony on Wednesday that he discussed robbing Trobaugh with DeVito, but said he did not know the plan was going to be carried out when the two men visited the victim on Jan. 21. Investigators said Trobaugh died after being shot once In the back of the head at close range. Although the murder weapon was never recovered, Howington said DeVito shot Trobaugh with a pistol. Howington was returned yesterday to the Montgomery County Jail where he has been held since his Jan.

24 arrest He will be transferred to a state prison. DeVito has been In the Montgomery County Jail In lieu of $100,000 bond since his Jan. 23 arrest. HI- Bowling Green KY. At wo.
