Ellen Wood new BMI publicist Elen Wood has been appointed coordinator of public information for the Nashville office of Broadcast Music Inc. BMI senior vice president Frances Preston announced Wood's hiring effective Jaa 20. Wood began working in Nashville's music industry as a secretary at Tree International publishing. She joined Mercury Records in 1 967 as secretary to producerexecutive Jerry Kennedy. According to Audrey Michaels, Schermerhom's New York-based press representative, the itinerary for the Hong Kong orchestra's 10-day mainland visit will include a total of seven concerts two in Beijing, two in Shanghai and two in Hangzhou. Schermerhorn, who has served as the Hong Kong Philharmonic's music director since 1984, will conduct all performances.

The orchestra's tour has been planned in response to an Invitation from The China Performing Arts Agency, which Michaels described as "the Gosconcert of China," comparing it to the goverment office which oversees all performing arts activities in the Soviet Union. Partial support for the tour will come from the The China Performing Arts Agency, Michaels said, although some funding will be provided by the Hong Kong orchestra itself. "John Duffus the Hong Kong Philharmonic's general manager has engineered the entire thing," Michaels said. "This tour has been in the wind for months, but you can't really announce anything until you have the invitation in hand. "John had all the wheels in motion he had all the artists engaged and everything so that, when the invitation came, there wasn't a mad scramble "This tour is completely organized," Michaels said.
