Anneke said initial reports show the independent UIIF signal is being picked up across the Middle Tennessee area, but engineers will be "fine tuning" the picture throughout the next 10 days.

Channel 39 eventually will be shown on Viacom's Channel 31, but Viacom general manager Jim Stewart said yesterday the Federal Communications Commission has not yet given the cable company permission to use Channel 31 in that manner.

Channel 30 has been cleared, however, and will serve as temporary home for the new channel. (A third independent station, WCAY-Channel 30. is scheduled to-" premiere in Nashville in mid-February.) -ACCORDING TO Anneke. the station will not operate on its usual schedule during the first week to 10 days to allow time for performance tests required by the Federal Communications Commission. Instead, he said, the plan js to sign on at 7 a.m.
