In exchange for the guilty plea, numerous other charges against Collins were dropped, said Jim Taylor, who heads the TBI's Medicaid Fraud Division. Collins was sentenced to a two-year term, but the sentence was suspended and he was placed in probation, Taylor said. In addition, Collins was ordered by Criminal Court Judge Earle Murphy to pay fines and investigative costs totaling $7,000.

The money will go to Taylor's unit, he said. Thirteen people have been indicted so far in "Operation Rx," with charges pending against numerous other pharmacists across the state, Taylor said.
