Curtis moved to Florida in 1978 after his retirement. He attended public private schools in Tennessee. In his early life, he was employed by the Dupont Co. He was in engineer-ing-the construction of new plants. At the age of 27, he was promoted to the top level of supervision, later he was manager and buyer for the Mercantile stores.

In 1955 he purchased a clothing store in Terre Haute, Indiana, he operated this until he semi retired. He was a member of the Church of Christ since he was 12 yrs old. He was a member of Master Masonic Lodge No. 39 of New Albany, Indiana, the Masonic Consistory Scottish Rite of Louisville, Ky. He obtained a 32nd Degree there.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge of New Albany, Indiana and the Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute, Ind. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louida Grace Curtis; daughters, Betty Lois Bender, Plant City. Cindy Davies. Fontanet.
