Arrangements by WOODLAWN FUNERAL HOME, 383-4754 Triple-A alliance moving on 1 onnt sMiin News Sen ices INDIANAPOLIS The Siamese twins of Class AAA baseball, the alliance of the American Association and the International League, took their first halting steps yesterday.

A schedule was tentatively approved at a meeting of owners and general managers. As advertised, it contains interleague play, something baseball people had wondered about for years but had never acted on. Association and ILclubswill play ach other in May and early June, ith the results counting in the standings of both leagues. Each of the 16 'teams will play each team from the "other league five times. A tentative playoff schedule has been sent to the Major League Executive Council forapproval.

Under it, the four regular-season division winners would meet in best-of-five-league championship series, and the survivors from each league would collide in a best-of-seven revival of the Little World Series. now, nobody has had guts enough to put it (interleague play) into effect," commissioner Harold Cooper said. "It's an exciting concept, and it's going to be very successful. Fans in each city will see 15 (other) Triple-A clubs. They're going to see the very best at the Triple-A level." Convinced that a confrontation between politicians and baseball officials must be avoided, long-time major-league executive Robert Howsam Sr.

has offered a blueprint for expansion. In an interview with the Rocky Mountain News, Howsam said his compromise proposal "has a chance to make baseball stronger than ever." Howsam, the architect of three World Series champions (St. Louis, 1964, and Cincinnati, 1976 and 1977), believes a congressional group that is pressing for expansion should proceed with caution. Howsam outlined a step-by-step plan that urges the major-league owners to: Award four franchises, three in the National League and one in the American League, raising the number of teams to 30. Give the new franchises four years of lead time to build their organizations and develop farm systems.

In the fourth year, allow the new teams to take part i an expansion draft of major-league players and enter the big leagues that season. Either realign the 30 teams into six five-team divisions, three in each league, or create a three-league setup, with five clubs in each division and two divisions in each league. With the three-league format, a round-ro-bi World Series among the three champions would have to be considered, Help Congress realize the importance of some antitrust protection not only for baseball, but for all professional sports. Formed and chaired by Sen. Tim Wirth, including Tennessee senators Jim Sasserand Albert Gore the 1 4-member Senate Task Force, on Expansion of Major League Baseball has asked for meetings with commissioner Peter Ueberroth and league presidents A.

Forwards are 6-9 Aleksandr Vol kov and 6-9 Valery Tikhonenko with 6-4 Tiit Sokk and 6-4 Sharunas Marchu-lenis at guard. "What makes playing a team like this so different from a college team is that when they substitute, the man they send in is just as good as the man they took out," says Newton.

A game between local print and electronic media will be played at 6: 1 5, Former Vandy coach Roy Skinner will coach one team and for-, mer Banner sports writer Dudley (Waxo) Green the other.
