2 THURSDAY, JULY 7, 2005 Joely Martinet DAILY DIGEST FUNERAL NOTICES FRANPIS HOWARD GODDARD November 13. 1924-July 1,2005 Francis Howard Goddarcl was horn on November 13, 1924 in San Francisco. California and passed away on July 1, 2005 in Merced, California. Howard Goddard grew tip in Talmage near Ukiah, California. He graduated from Ukiah High School in 1943 during World War II, and was drafted into the Army to serve with the 81st Regimental Combat Team in the Pacific Theater on Angour, Peleliu, and Leyte.

In 1950, he graduated from St. Mary's College, Moranga, California, and continued graduate studies at California State Universities San Jose and Fresno. Beginning in 1956, Mr. Goddard served as an English teacher with the Merced Union High School District completing over 26 years at Livingston High School and the final six years at Merced High School, retiring in 1989. Mr.

Goddard belonged to the Winton V.F.W., American Legion, N.R.A., Ducks Unlimited, the Sierra Club, and the California Retired Teachers Association. Mr. Goddard enjoyed his hunting dogs, hunting pheasants and spending time with wife Carol, vacationing and visiting family. He is preceded in death by his parents Bernard Goddard and Annie Goddard Garaventa and his first wife Inez Goddard. He is survived by his wife, Carol Goddard, of Merced; sons, Glen Goddard and wife Anne of Folsom, Mark Goddard of Merced, and Kirk Goddard and wife Kathie of Seattle; stepdaughters Susan Gunii of Merced, Karen Anderson of Rocklin, and six grandchildren.

Visitation will, be held Wednesday, July 6, 2005 from 2:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. with a rosary following at 6:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m.

at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. in Merced. Burial will be held on Friday, July 8, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Ukiah Cemetery in Ukiah, California.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. close friends and family of Benjamin Nathaniel Wilson of Ukiah, who passed away on July 4, 2005, will he held at Matt and Jennifer's home on Saturday, July 9, 2005 at 12 noon.

Born November 15, 1974 in Ukiah, he graduated Ukiah High School in 1992. Benjamin was a carpenter and landscaper who loved Frisbee golf, gob!" and music. He will be remembered for the care and love he showed for his family and Benjamin is survived by his parents Pat Wilson and Suzy Wilson, brother Matt Wilson, sister-in-law Jennifer Rensen and his nephews Kaleb and Nathan Wilson. Memorial contributions to Plowshares are preferred. The Eversole Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

BENJAMIN NATHANIEL WILSON Memorial services for RALPH EVERETT WHITTAKER Potter Valley native Ralph Whittaker died June 29, 2005 'in Tonopah, Nevada, at the age of 84. Ralph's Potter Valley pioneers Charles and Albert Whittaker, arrived in Potter Valley in 1873, and Ralph himself was born on July 3, 1920 to Albert and Alice Whittaker. Ralph graduated from Potter Valley High School and lived in Potter Valley until enlisting in the Army in 1942. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific as sergeant until being wounded and later discharged in 1946. In 1949, Ralph married the daughter of another long-time Potter Valley Family, Kathryn (Kay) Furber.

Together, they spent the next 30 years operating the Whittaker family ranch on the east side of Potter Valley. Ralph also ran cattle for the Church of the Golden Rule on Ridgewood Ranch for a number of years. Ralph and Kay moved to Tonopah in 1981, where Ralph raised beef cattle and worked with the National Forest Service's Senior Community Service Employment Program until his full retirement in 2000. In Tonopah, Ralph won local fame for the high quality woodworking and refinished furniture that he created in what he called his tampootie (workshop) behind his house. Ralph is survived by his wife Kay; grandson James Miller of Tonopah; grandson David Miller and wife Mary of Livermore, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews: Bert Whittaker of Janesville, CA; Ruth Wingate of Redding, CA; Bob Whittaker of Willits; Jim Whittaker of Dietrich, ID; Susan Whittaker Bertsch of Willits; Sally Whittaker Jones of Willits; Sandy Whittaker of Red Bluff; David Moody of John Day, OR; John Graves of Ukiah; Pat Scranton of Placerville, CA; Steve Hopper of Canyon City, OR; and Kathy Hopper of Willits.

Ralph was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Miller. At Ralph's request, no services will be held. Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 7, 2005 from 6 to 8 pm at the Eversole Mortuary. Born August 22, 1915 in Bakersfield, she has resided in the area for 36 years.

Floris was a homemaker and had worked as a foster grandparent at Trinity School for 23 years. She received Congressional Recognition for being a foster grandparent. She was proud of being a foster grandparent 'and of her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her garden, her patience for her family and her love for her family. Floris is survived by her daughter Betty Jean Marsh of Las Cruces, New Mexico, son Joseph Theodore Cardoza Jr.

of Citrus Heights, CA, brother Wesley Gray of Sacramento, grandchildren Robert, Tim, Richard, Tammy and Sammie, Laurie and Joanne. Fourteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren also survive. Memorial contributions to Disabled Veterans are preferred. P.O. Box 757 Redwood Valley, CA 95470.

KUGEL Memorial services for Alexander "Alex" A. Kugel of Ukiah, who passed away on July 1, 2005, will be held on Friday, July 8, 2005 at 4:30 PM at the Ukiah Seventh Day Adventist jChurch. Private interment will be at the Ukiah Cemetery.

Born in Ukiah on May 16, 1985, Alex was enrolled at Mendocino College studying to become a writer. He was working at the Mendocino Animal Hospital. He was the only son of his father, Arthur Kugel, MD of Ukiah, and his mother Gale Dizmang of Napa, California. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, friends and 2 dogs all of whom loved and cherished him very much. His absence from their lives will leave a huge empty place for years to come.

Alex loved animals. Memorial contributions can be made in his name with the S.P.C.A. in Ukiah. Also, a memorial fund is being established in Alex's honor. This fund will provide mentoring support for at risk students.

Sunday. According to a news release from the California Highway Patrol, Edgar was driving her 1992 Dodge Caravan west on Highway 20 at an unknown rate of speed. As Edgar came into a slight left hand curve in the roadway, she failed to negotiate the turn. Her van traveled off the side of the road and hit a large redwood tree. The force of the impact caused the frame of her vehicle to buckle, and she was pinned inside with the airbag deployed.

Edgar was extricated from the van by the Fort Bragg Fire Department and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, Arrestees hometowns were not provided by the CHP: ARREST Bulmaro Lopez, 21, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at 1:10 a.m. Friday, on Highway 101, near Hopland. ARREST Sharon Miller, 47, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at Friday, on North State Street, Ukiah. ARREST Nicholas Halvorsen, 33, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at 11:12 p.m. Friday, on Highway 101, south of Ukiah.

ARREST Martin Fye, 42, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at 8:36 p.m. Saturday, on Highway 20, near Fort Bragg. ARREST Jeffrey Mclnnis, 51, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at 10:44 p.m. Saturday, at Hearst and Reynolds. ARREST Lonnie Poindexter, 50, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, on Highway 101 at Shamrock. FIRE AND RESCUE ACCIDENT Emergency personnel from five different agencies responded to a vehicle over the embankment on the Willits grade at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday. The driver was transported to Howard Memorial Hospital with minor injuries after driving the vehicle some 200 feet down an embankment just north of Reeves Canyon Road on southbound Highway 101.
