"I thought the players did a good job for the first game and they adjusted their offense rapidly although Sewanee used numerous defensive patterns." Coach Lon Varnell of the Sewanee Tigers likewise was impressed with Vandy's first-game showing.

"They should go a long way this season," Varnell said. "They have good shots and those two guards (Al Rochelle and Babe Taylor) really know how to run the team out there on the floor." The Commodores, sporting a veteran starting alignment of four of last year regulars, were never in serious difficulty once the pact of the game was set after about three minutes of play. Joining Harrison and Thym as double-digit totalers for the Commodores were the other three starter, including Jo (Hobby) Gibbs, a 6-6 junior from Jeffersonville, who wat starting his first game at Vandy. lJ-V RAYMOND JOHNSON vAs -j Once more Knoxville has blown a Ki'and opportunity to yet a berth in one of the higher minor leagues The Fact Tpnrtpsspp ritv's hones son in rebounds, one phase of the battle in which the Commodores were in complete command.
