Super Bowl Boosts CBS NEW YORK AP) Sunday night's Super Bowl, the pro football championship, was the most-watched sports telecast ever, with an audience estimated at 34.2 million homes, A.C. Nielsen figures show. The popularity of the Super Bowl put CBS in first place in the networks' battle for the prime time viewer for only the second time this season. The game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Denver Broncos had a rating of 46.9, compared with the previous record 44.4, set last year by the Super Bowl featuring Oakland and Minnesota. Sunday's game was the first in the Super Bowl's 12-year history to be played in prime time.

The rating for the game means 46.9 percent of all the homes in the country with TV watched at least part of the game. For the week ending Jan. 15, CBS' rating of 24.1 was the highest of any network this season. That means in an average prime time minute, 24.1 percent of the homes in the country with TV were tuned to CBS, Nielsen says. ABC, No.
