(AP) Running back Dwain Durden scored on an 82-yard run and set a Southern Conference college football rushing record last night as Tennessee-Chattanooga defeated Appalachian State 14-7. Durden rushed 132 yards in the conference game, boosting his career total rushing yards to 3,092. The old conference record was 3,002.

Appalachian State scored first on a 6-yard run by fullback Pete Comelo in the second quarter as both teams put up a tough defensive fight. Chattanooga came back in the third quarter and scored on a three-yard run by Steve Woods, with Phifer Howell kicking the extra point. Durden's long run sealed the victory for the Moccasins with 6:43 left in the third quarter. Chattanooga improved its record to 3-0, while Appalachian State fell to 2-1.
