Hypnosis had been used particularly to help patients deal with pain resulting from arthritis, cancer or other chronic or life-threating diseases. Hypnotherapy is being used for some psychosomatic illnesses, for reduction of nausea reulting from drug treatments in cancer patients and for other problems, such as preoperative apprehension, nail biting, tension headaches, obesity, insomnia and smoking, the AMA report says.

Thunderstorms fanned over the South and East ahead of the snowstorm and a tornado cut a five-mile path through Beaumont, Texas.

THE SMALL twister damaged numerous buildings and littered streets with fallen power lines and trees in Beaumont. Police said there were no injuries as the tornado bounced through the city for about five miles; shattering windows, damaging roofs and leveling trees. Up to 17 inches of show buried portions of northeastern New Mexico, closing roads and making travel hazardous over much of the area. U.S. 80-87 between the Raton and Clayton was closed for a while yesterday.

Long stretches of Interstate 25 and Interstate 40 were closed temporarily Tuesday when the snowstorm first hit New Mexico. Scores of motorists were stranded in northeastern New Mexico towns Tuesday night. NEW SNOWS swirled over the area yesterday but lacked the intensity of the system that stranded motorists and closed highways Tuesday. Roy, N.M., reported 17 inches of snow by yesterday morning and Los Alamos reported a foot of snow. Mrs.
