More significant, perhaps, is that more than half of NAR members has generated business from the Internet.

In addition, agents and brokers who use a computer earn $22,600 more than those who don't, according to "The 1998 National Association of Realtors Member Profile." According to NAR President Sharon Millett, other NAR data has shown that consumers using the Internet to shop for homes rose from 2 percent in 1995 to 23 percent currently. According to the survey, the typical Realtor is 52 years old, works 45 hours a week, has been in the business for 13 years and earned a gross income of $43,500 in 1998. The median gross income for a broker was $63,100, while the typical real estate agent earned $30,300. Fifty-four percent of ajl members are female. The results were based on random surveys of 40,000 NAR members.

The response rate was just over 19 percent with a margin of error of about 1 percentage point.
