LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) Jerry and Mike Quarry stand to make a great deal of money from their tomorrow night fights because they have faith in their father.

"In the beginning it was a gamble," said 49-year-old Jack Quarry, who was instrumental in setting up the Las Vegas Convention Center card with Jerry battling former heavyweight champion Muhammed Ali and Mike challenging Bob Foster for the light heavyweight crown. "WHEN WE started, I didn't have the money, but Jerry and Mike were willing to gamble le with me," said the elder Quarry. Signing the fight took $500,000 guarantee to Ali and $80,000 to Foster. Jerry originally was to collect $175,000 and Mike $35,000, When there was trouble getting early financing, Jack said, his sons agreed to wait on payment contingent on the closed circuit television money. BECAUSE THEY waited, the guarantees were boosted to $200,000 for Jerry and $45,000 for Mike.

Jack said he originally had hoped to sign Joe Frazier for a championship match with Jerry they wanted to pay $500,000 just for the right to talk about such a fight. So we changed and went after Ali." The elder Quarry said he first thought of the doubleheader when Mike had wanted to fight Foster and had an offer of less money than Jack thought he deserved. "SO I WENT to Jerry and Mike and told them what I wanted to do," the father said. "I couldn't promise anything but I told them I would try, Jerry gave me a letter of commitment so I could try to sign Ali." Even after the signings, there were rumors the bouts wouldn't come off because of trouble with the financing. Jack Quarry kept working and now says that all signs point to a successful promotion.
