The lecture delivered by Hon. J. G. Carap last week was probably the best ever given here. This is the first of a aeries of six entertaiu'ments that will be given here this season by the Midland Lyceum Bureau of Chicago.

Mra. Hal Kenworthy and daughter are up from Dixon on a visit. August and Mrs. H. J.

Johnson came down from Oovelc last week with fourteen Indian children who will go to Carlisle, Penn. and Phoenix, schools. Misa Genevieve Mathews returned to her home in Ukiah last week. Rumor has it that slie will settle down here in a few monthf. Mrs.

P. L. Hall, Vane Rogers and R. E. Cook attended Frank Orr's funeral at Ukiah Saturday.

President Lancaster has secured Francis Hope to lecture at the hail Monday night. Mr, Hope is the official lecturer of the California Promotion Committee, Miss Mabel Endicott has returned from a visit in the bay cities. The Misses Anna Rose, and Grace Renniok came up from Ukiah last week and will live here in the future. Attorney Swortflguer is still a very sii)k man. The railroad boys will give a dance at Whited'a hall next Friday night.

A crowd is expected up from Ukiab. BIG REVIVAL MEETING IN OLD MENDOCINO SUMMONS Mendocino, Oct. Jonea and Burcb concluded Cthe work here with their service laat Sunday evening, This ia ia the moat auocessful revival that has ever been held in this section of the coast. Nearly seventy-five converts are reported. A banquet was served to the converts on Monday evening by the ladies of the church.

The mill started Monday with the new boiler plant furnishing their steam. This is the first step toward the reconstruction of the mill. Now will commence the tearing away of the old boiler plant and extending the mill so as to make room for the latest improvements in machinery. The mill will be remodeled and made up-to-date in every way. An Italian by the name of Joseph August died rather suddenly here last Wednesday evening.

At flrst the cause was given aa appendicitis. A post mortem examination showed that somebody bad jumepd on his chest, bursting open his stomach. The party committing the offense ia unknown. City That Gets Republican tion Must Put Up Washington, Oct. city which has to spare, with a hall seating from 7,000 to 10 ,000 persons, with adequate hotel accommodations for 2,000 delegates, alternates and officcers, plus to 20,000 visitors, and the whole surmounted with an adequate telegraph service, can make a bid for the next Republican National Convention with a fair prospect of success. The call ot the meeting of the national committee will probably be issued during the latter part of this week, when Chairman New arrives in Washington and has a conference with Secretary Elmer Dover, who is already in town. Mrs. Tom Doyle was badly burned Sunday while making coffee at a pleasure party on the beach. The cover to the coffee pot was air tight and while leaning over it it exploded causing a very severe burn on the arm. B. A.

Rose, boas of the Caspar mill left, Friday morning on a business trip to the Metropolis. Mr. Stanley, of the Mendocino electric light company, has been busy for several days connecting the wires of the main line with the Caspar mill. The mill's private plant burned out over a week ago. Mrs.

O. J. Hood left Thursday via Fort Bragg on an extended pleasure trip below. Mr. Pomeroy who has had charge of the Caspar company's books during the illness of Mr.

Scheper left Friday for San Francisco. Mr. Pomeroy'a short stay gained for bim a host of friends who regret his departure. We are pleased to see the pleasant face of Scheper again at the office window. Mr.

The death of Joe August Sonza Thursday on account of his having been sick but three days, caused some fear lost he died from injuries received during an altercation with some parties two days frevioua. Dr. Milliken hold an autopsy npon the body and found that death seemingly was due to natural causes.
