Ray said magistrates also decided to allow a Nashville architectural firm to design the new courthouse in a contemporary style. "WE'RE HOPING to get the school torn down for the salvage value in it," Ray said. But some funds for demolition are included in the estimated $1.5 million the court expects to spend for the new courthouse, he said. No funds have yet been budgeted for the construction. Ray said the court's Capital Outlay Committee was directed to find some firm to tear down the old school, located about three-fourths of a mile southeast of the court square on U.S.

41. ALL OF THE school except the gymnasium, which includes six classrooms, will be torn down, Ray said. Classes will be moved this fall from the school to the new $5 million high school, built on a 52-acre tract on Tullahoma Road in Manchester. The oldest part of the vacant structure was built in 1936, with a cafeteria, kitchen, home economics cottage and shop building added in the 1950s, Ray said.
