PLANS FOR A $2000 HOME. (Copyright, 1904, by Newspaper Enterprise Association.) Whether wisely or unwisely so far as future generations especially are concerned, our capitalists and real estate men handling suburban property adjacent larger cities, have too often seen fit to lay out their suburban towns or additions into what may be considered very email parcels of ground. In order to make more money and secure a rapid sale ot the property, they endeavor to.

cut up the ground into very small lots, to place them within the reac 1 of "the great multitude of wage earners. In a way, perhaps this Is wise and good, but after all it does seem as if the mod- eat wage earner ought, to haVe a spot large enough upon which to breathe and that, too, within reasonable traveling distance of the point to which his dally occupation calls iim. But whatever may be right or wrong In the premises, the prospec- -Ive home builder Is brought face to face with the facts and conditions as they are, and the thing to do is to meet them In as practical a manner as possible. For this reason, the subject of this article Is for a taste- and modern little home, equipped with all the conveniences and comforts can be built upon a lot as narrow even as 26 feet, though It is true that even this house if placed upon such a lot woulh come pretty clos.e to the neighbor's line. As will be seen from the plan, the house has a total width of 25 feet, exclusive of the dining room bay and cornice projection.

The depth is 40 feet, exclusive of porches, so even erty. No real woman ever sold her heart for the i of life. But many a woman who has gladly faced poverty for the man she loved, well doubt her wisdom when pain becomes the mate of poverty. If she were rich, the most grasping real estate man can scarcely cut up his ground into too small a parcel to make it unavailable for tils design. One great probhm in house Is to secure a satisfactory entrance hall, not the narrow, cramped hallway, about three or three and one-half feet widj, but something a little unique, in this design It is secured, the very pretty reception hall with spacious Beat and the staircase half screened starting at the end of the hall from a low landing.

The parlor is a very pretty room, and in connection with the dining room, forms living apartments that will answer the requirements of the average family perfectly. Quite direct access from kitchen to front door 'through dining mom is secured. There Is a liberal pantry, and the refrigerator standing in entry the necessity of the lee man soiling the kitchen floor every morning with his muddy boots, as in this arrangement it is not necessary for him to enter the, kitchen at all when ailing the ice box. It will be noted that a back stairway is secured in this design and in fact every convenience and facility of ar- rangemeat of a more expensive house Is secured. The front bed chamber is a mag- nlflcent room.

'J he two other chambers are also of good size, and the bath room as well. There is a stairway leading to the third or attic floor, and there is space there for finishing off a couple of rooms if desired," and still leave storage space. Some saving could be secured by omitting bay on dining room and leaving out mantel and chimney in parlor, though rthis would involve jmtting an additional flue In the kitchen chimney for ventilation. The house has a full basement with cement floor, in which hot air heating apparatus and laundry, etc. are provided.

The entire house being heated makes the front chimney really not an absolule necessity. The flnish intended Is hardwood, either oak or birch in the hall, parlor and dining room. Balance of house pine, poplar or cypress, paint- id or stained. The estimated cost of this design is $2,000, based on the prices quoted below, and a condition among the builders that would insure a reasonable amount of genuine competition. Schedule of Prices.
