The best bet: Hiking the Falls By YVONNE EATON Staff Writer If you would like to go back in time while staying close to home, explore the fossil beds along the Indiana shore. But don't do it alone.

Join a naturalist from the Falls of the Ohio State Park, 201 W. Riverside Drive, Clarksville, to look at corals, brachiopods, snails, clams, trilobites and other ancient creatures preserved in limestone. Tomorrow's hikes will be "Corals Galore" at 10 a.m., "Mollusk Mosey" at 1 p.m. and "Discovery Hike" at 3. Friday the "Mini-caves" hike at 10 a.m.

will take you into the middle of a bed that you might miss on your own. The "Forest Ecology" hike at 1 p.m. will help you learn about the 200 wildflowers in the Falls area. (Wear sturdy shoes and long pants for that one.) The hikes last from 45 minutes to an hour and are a little rugged. During hot weather, call to make sure the afternoon hikes are still on.

The park also has some longer and more strenuous hikes. You can meet the tour guide outside the Interpretive Center, on the deck. Or you can visit the center itself, with its programs and exhibits. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 2 to 12. The featured movie covers" 4 million years of the Falls area and has won two international awards for multimedia presentations.

Donaldson says the groin melanoma was confined to one lymph node.

Affair to remember A married woman walks a dangerous path in "The Silence of Adultery," a new Lifetime channel movie tonight at 9 on TKR-35. Kate Jackson plays Rachel, a middle-aged wife who can't get her husband's attention and has an affair. It's not that her husband, Michael (Art Hindle), doesn't love her. He's just busy trying to keep his business going. The movie is not powerful, but the performances are adequate.

What goes unspoken are the needs of children caught up in the lives of adults who play dangerous games. Letter from the past Mare Winningham is usually a convincing actress who appears in strong but she misses the mark on both scores in a cable movie tonight. She plays Judy, a married woman with financial and husband problems, in "Letter to My Killer" at 9 on USA cable (TKR-33). Farner slipped into an a capella intro to "The Locomotion," followed by Billy Preston's muscular version of "Nothin' from Nothin'." Randy Bachman reached back to his days in the Guess Who with a chunky rendition of "No Sugar Tonight," followed by Felix Cava-liere's stunning turn on the Rascals' "People Got to Be Free." Following the big bass of John Entwistle's "Boris the Spider," Ringo had a whack at "Boys," then Bachman served up the signature stutter of "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet." Ringo responded with the bouncy "You're Sixteen" and a sing-along on "Yellow Submarine." For almost two hours they played, with highlights including Cavaliere's soulful "Groovin'," Preston's "Will It Go 'Round in Circles," the big, beefy riff of Bachman's Care of Business" and, appropriately, Ringo's "With a Little Help from My Friends." By ALLEN HOWIE Contributing Critic If there truly is a rock 'n' roll heaven, a little slice of it landed on the stage of the Palace Theatre last night as Ringo Starr brought his All-Starr Band to Louisville. First, though, came a wonderful surprise: a sterling six-song opening set by singer-guitarist Nils Lof-gren. Ringo's aptly named band included a manic Billy Preston and former Rascal Felix Cavaliere on keyboards, BTO frontman Randy Bach-man and former Grand Funk leader Mark Farner on guitars, Who bassist John Entwistle, and both Starr and his son, Zak Starkey, on drums. Ringo started things off with "Don't Go Where the Road Don't Go" from his last album, followed by the Beatles' "I Wanna Be Your Man" and a droll "It Don't Come Easy." tjtj with this ad only!
