VALUATION SLIP IS CLUE TO OWNER OF TICKET The owner of a ticket from Los Angeles to San Francisco, found on the street in Los Angeles by E. E.

Balling, traveling Auditor, was recently determined, through the system now in operation in the baggage department of the Southern Pacific of requiring passengers to sign "valuation slips" when checking their baggage. Noticing a baggage punch mark in the ticket, Mr. Balling went to the baggage room in the Los Angeles station and, guided by the date stamp and ticket number, found the baggage cLeck numbers for that ticket. With these numbers he was enabled to find the name of the owner among the valu: tion slips. A refund was made and another traveler was made happy as a result of an efficient identification system- Men's Gabadine Pants for men.

Chase. c-5-25-3 ELKS TO HAVE PICNIC Members of Silver City Elk's Lodge, No. 413, will have a picnic at Palomas, Mexico, June 3, and all Elks an! their families are invited to attend. Elks living in Deming are trying to arrange to establish a branch club here on account of having to go to Silver City when they attend a lodge meeting. It was at first thought Deming might get a charter and the membership living here would deposit their cards and thereby make up lodge, but that idea is now given up and it is probable they will form branch of Silver City here.

BOARD OF EDUCATION MET At a special meeting of the Board of Education, held Tuesday night, the 22nd, the board reorganized as follows: J. G. Cooper, president. Mrs. J.

M. Crawford, vice-president. J. A. Mahoney, secretary.

Mrs. Kennedy, member. J. C. Watson, member.

At this meeting the following resolution was adopted: "Be it resolved: That no tuition will be charged in the Deming schools for the year 1923-24." R. H. Hughes and Wm. Leffler journied to El Paso Friday Evening in search of excitement. "Bud" says they found it a-plenty.

Joe Martin, though, broke up the services when he told about a certain traveling man who went into a barber shop to get shaved.
