She was a retired office manager for the former Hoffman Motors and Freedom Nissan, a former secretary and treasurer for Madison Regatta Committee and a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Survivors: her husband, Wayne L. Miller; daughters Harriet Corbin and Donna Colber; a sister, Dorothy Med-ders; a brother, Joseph Baumgartel; six grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

He was a native of Tunnelton, a retired employee of French Lick Springs Hotel, an Army veteran of World War II and a member American Legion Post 49 and King Creek Church. Maggard, 89, formerly of Austin, died Thursday in Sebastian, Fla. He was a retired postmaster and letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, an electrician and a member of. Masonic Lodge 120, Royal Arch Masonic Lodge and Austin United Methodist Church. Survivors: his wife, the former Dorothy Gray; a son, Enzor Maggard; two grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren.

Monday. CENTRAL Melwin A. Simler, 71, died Saturday at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. He was a native of Harrison County, a retired stockman for Ford Motor Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, an Army veteran and a member of United Auto Workers. Visitation: 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Elizabeth F. Krauss, 70, died Saturday at Hurstbourne Care Centre at Stony Brook. She was the former Elizabeth Kindle and a member of St.

Ann's Altar Society. Survivors: sons David Robert taught by age 3 that masturbation is OK but should be done in private, and that instruction about reproduction should begin in kindergarten. Critics labeled Calderone a promoter of smut and perversion, and suggested that her teachings would encourage young people to become sexually active. Calderone and the sex-education center said that where students were taught about sex, teen pregnancy declined. She graduated from Vassar in 1925, got a medical degree from the George, 38, who was carrying no identification, was in critical condition last night at University of Louisville Hospital, said Officer Dave Lehman, a Jefferson County police spokesman.

He listed George's address as the "city at large." George was walking west from the Matthew J. Ill, Mark A. and John J. Krauss; sisters Jane Patterson and Roberta Brewer; a brother, Garrett Kindle; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral: 10 a.m.

Monday. Lewis L. Layman, 77, died Friday at Jewish Hospital. He was a native of Grayson County, a retired supervisor for the old H.J. Scheirich an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and a Baptist.

Survivors: his wife, the former Mary Smith; sons Richard L. and Jeffrey L. Layman; sisters Nellie Whi-taker, Iva Powell and Louise Schildk-necht; and four grandchildren. Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday, Owen, 5317 Dixie Highway.

Maxey, 83, of Olive Street, died Saturday at University of Louisville Hospital. He was a native of Cementville, a retired employee of Audubon Hospital and an Army veteran. Survivors: his wife, Mary L. Maxey, and sons Thomas and Michael Maxey. A private funeral will be held later.

Private burial: Cave Hill. Arrangements: Perryman's. John E. Morrison, 57, of Crestwood, died Friday at Tri-County Baptist Hospital in La Grange. He was a native of Middlesboro, a retired coach and teacher for Oldham County Public Schools, a member of National Rifle Association and Crestwood Baptist Church and a former member of Kentucky Education Association and Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

Survivors: his wife, the former Rusti Carrithers; sons John A. and Josh K. Morrison; a daughter, Carrie A. Morrison; brothers George, Andy Jr. and James Morrison; and sisters University of Rochester in 1939 and a master's in public health from Columbia University in 1942.

She married Dr. Frank Calderone, who became director of health services at the U.N. Secretariat. In 1953 she joined Planned Parenthood Federation of America as medical director. At age 60, she left to help found the sex-education center, which she led until 1982.

She is survived by three daughters, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. is identified center lane at Coffer Avenue and Dixie about 7:10 a.m. Friday when he apparently walked into the path of a southbound car driven by Roger G. Burnett, 42, of Glenrock Road near Iroquois Park. Burnett sustained no injuries, and no charges were filed, Lehman said.

Tuesday. Kentucky woman shot to death; arrests are made Associated Press WHITLEY CITY, Ky. A Whitley City woman was shot to death yesterday morning, and Kentucky State Police have made arrests in the slaying. Patricia Walker, 21, was killed when shots were fired into the car in which she was a passenger. The driver of the car, Donnie Bell, 22, of Pine Knot, reportedly was involved in a confrontation with the suspects at a bar in Tennessee, police said.

Walker was shot when Bell drove by the suspects' residence. Police released no further information about the suspects. Walker was pronounced dead at Scott County Hospital in Oneida, Tenn. Bell received minor injuries and was treated at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knox-ville and dismissed. Mary Calderone, who preached that children should be taught sex education practically from the cradle, died yesterday. She was 94. Calderone died at a continued-care facility where she had been living. She was a founder in 1964 of the Sex Information and Education Center of the United States, which had a goal to foster "responsible use of the sexual faculty."
