pneumonia aged about 50 years His remains were inteired at St Paul church Wednesday Deceased was presid ing elder cf the Statesville district of the Methodist Protestant Church He was the brother in 30th aggregated $1500281 This is quite a big busi ness and Mr Bristol is naturally proud of it Mr Webb who was in Greensboro Monday closed a con tract with Mr McCrary for a monument and statue which the Carolina Marble and Granite Com pany will erect at tho grave of Mr wifo in Lexington Both monument and statue will be of light Italian marble and will be 9i feet high Mr Webb says he secured this A Leazar resigned The Supreme Court has revrr ed the decision of the lower court in the case ot Brown vs Plott from Iredell This is the famous Rock Cut road case in which Mr Geo Brown of Statesville was interested as one of the owneis of Longisland cotton mills A certain change iu the road was asked for there was objection and the matter got into tho courts In tho Superior Court a verdict was rendered against Mr Brown but the Supreme Court reverses this and gives him and bis associates the road asked for A Surprise Marriage Mt Wm Albert Jaksoa and Miss Willie Irene Bailey were njarried at the residence of the fficiating min'S ter Rev Richardsf Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock JThe only per sons present at th ceremony except Mr family were Mr Ed Deitz and Miss Mary White who act cd as handle coin should have a care The counterfeit is an imitation silver dollar bearing date of 1891 It is fairly well executed but the material 1 is poor It is very light weight and can be easily detected if one takes notice Two or three business men have taken in these dollars without detect ing them and without knowing who gave them in A Harmless Runaway There was a lively runaway in town last evening about dark One of Messrs Kerr drivers was at the depit waiting for the I train from the west and left his team standing while he went into the de i pot In his absence the horses walk ed off incretsing their speed to a i trot and when they were near the i fill at tanyard they began running and continued to run at a lively rate until they had passed through Kerr stable to the rear end They made the trip through town without colliding with anything and there was no damage at all A Bale of Cotton Stolen and Afterward ound On Saturday night November 23 1 a thief or thieves stole a bale of cot ton from Mr Ed gin about two miles from Statesville The cotton belonged to a Mr Har I mon who lives about four miles from Statesville on the Turnersbnrg road The bale of cotton was missed from the gin yard on Sunday following its disappearance and was found later in an old field about one mile from i Statesville Mr Harmon and others kept guard over the cotton for a night or two to catch the thief if he should appear but the nights were too cold to con tinue the watch and Mr Harmon hauled his cotton home and tho thief was not caught Death of Mr Long Mr Ling of Elmwood died rather suddenly Wednesday evening about 8 Mr Long was in poor health for some years and for quite a while was critically ill He had recovered however and for the past year had been much improved Death resulted from bladder trouble and the sudden and fatal termina tion of the attack was quite a shock to his friends Mr Long was about 70 years old or many years he had been in the mercantile business at the firm name being Ling Son was also postmaster there He was a good citizen a man of many excellent traits and was uni versally esteemed by all who knew him His wife and eight children six sons and two daughters survive Tne sous are Messrs and Chas Long of Chicago Long of St Louis Long of Newton and Long of Elm wood the daughters are Mrs A Early and Miss annie Long of Elm wood The rem ains will be brought here to morrow from Elmwood and inter red in Oakwood cemetery Books Received for the Rural Libraries Capt Burwell who has bad charge ot selecting and buying books for the rural libraries in the county has received all the books and they have been turned over to the local managers in the several districts Each set or library contains from 82 to S3 volutnis consisting of fiction biography history and works of standard poets The books are of very good paper and are neatly bound The school districts that will have libraries are as follows: Sbarpesburg township No 3
