Funeral, 4 p.m. Sunday, Stotts- Edith Gividen, author and former advertising executive, dies at 93 Although Gividen began writing her first book during World War II, "Then I Will Go Alone" about a French woman who brings her family to the United States it wasn't published until 1979, when she was 77.

She had Dublished jr. feft-i The Courier-Journal Edith H. Gividen, an author and former advertising executive in Kentucky, died Thursday at a hospital in Killeen, Texas, after an illness. She was 93. Gividen had been advertising director for several stores in Lexington and Louisville, including Bacons, from which she retired in 1963.

She won several local and national advertising awards and was the Advertising Club of Louisville's Woman of the Year in 1954. At various times, she taught advertising at Jefferson Community College and the University of Louisville and had a Sunday-morning radio show. She also produced two weekly television shows. She moved to Copperas Cove, Texas, in 1980 and spent her time recording books on cassettes for the blind and reading to senior citizens and children in nursing homes and hospitals. She was the former Edith Hoot-man; a native of Ashland, Ohio; and a former member of Beulah Presbyterian Church.

Her survivors include two sons, George Jr. and Robert Gividen; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at McAfee Funeral Home, 4501 Bardstown Road, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m.

Before the war Gividen was in charge of special advertising for the Lexington Herald-Leader, and she had also worked for the Henderson Gleaner and Journal.
