Huskers top ISU, 35-0 AMES, Iowa (UPI) Jeff Quinn ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third score Saturday to pace third-ranked Nebraska to a 35-0 Big Eight Conference victory over tumble-prone Iowa State. The triumph improved Nebraska's record to 9-1 and 6-0 in the conference. Iowa State dropped to and 14 in the loop. Nebraska parlayed four Cyclone fumbles into touchdowns to break open a game dominated by the defenses in the early going. Nebraska's first break came with 2:28 remaining in the first half and the Cornhuskers leading 7-0.

Iowa State's Joe Brown fielded a Nebraska punt at his own tyard line but was swarmed under by Nebraska tacklers. The ball popped loose from Brown and rolled into the end zone, where Nebraska's Mike Mamdelko recovered it for a to give the visitors a 14-0 halfUme edge. A heralded matchup between the Big Eight's two top rushers never materialized. Iowa State held Nebraska's Jarvis Redwine to 33 yards on nine carries. Crutchfield, the league's No. 2 rusher, managed 60 yards in 19 carries. Nebraska's Andra Franklin led all rushers with 112 yards on 11 carries.

He scored the games winning touchdown on a 4-yard option keeper in tin final period. Wichita State upped its overall record to 5-4-1, but more importantly remained in the chase for the Valley Championship with a 4-1-1 record. West Texas State, the defending league champion, dropped to 4-6 overall, and MintheMVC. West Texas State found itself unable to take advantage of several scoring opportunity against the Shocker defense.

Eight Buffalo possession opened 1n Wichita territory but West Texas only got 10 points out of those opportunities. It fumbled the ball away at the 2 and 6 yard lines and had a third penetration stopped by an interception. Wichita State dominated the game clock. Its three scoring drives of 66, 65 and 67 yards consumed almost 19 total minutes. The Shockers used Junior Steve Warrington for the bulk of their ground work.

(UPI) Friends slotback Lewis Winfield scored on a 48- yard pass to pace the Falcons to an 117 win Saturday over Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Southwestern. Friends first scored in the second quarter on a 29-yard field goal, to lead Southwestern 3-0.

In the third quarter Winfield took a pass from quarterback Scott Downing for a touchdown. A 2- point conversion play then gave Friends an 11-0 lead. Southwestern's only score came in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Moundbuilders fullback John Tuttle. Friends improved its record to 3-5 in KCAC play and 4-5 overall. Southwestern now has a 4-4 conference record and 4-5 overall.

KU corrects misuse of telephones LAWRENCE (UPI) The University of Kansas athletic department says it has taken steps to correct alleged telephone misuse by three basketball players. Kansas Athletic Director Bob Marcum issued a Joint statement with basketball coach Ted Owens, saying Kansas Business Manager Susan Wachter had implemented a repayment plan for the calls several months, ago. "We were aware of the situation quite some time ago and we took the appropriate measures in compliance with the NCAA policy to handle the situation," Marcum said. The athletic department issued the statement late Friday, saying it was aware of the situation involving an athletic department credit card being used by Ricky Ross, Tony Guy and Olympian Darnell Valentine to make telephone calls. NCAA enforcement director Dave Bert would not confirm whether the phone calls were a violation of NCAA rules and would not say whether the NCAA would conduct an investigation.

"There are circumstances to every case that have to be checked out first," Bert said. The University Daily' Kansan, the student newspaper, reported Friday in a copyright story that Valentine, Ross and Guy made repeated calls in October 1979 and January 1980 to friends and relatives. The calls were made through a credit card assigned to assistant basketball coach Lafayette Norwood. "We were aware of the problem concerning telephone misuse," said Owens. (UPI) Freshman halfback Buster Rhymes, filling in for injured David Overstreet, scored touchdowns on runs of 5 and 55 yards to lead llth-ranked Oklahoma to a 17-7 victory Saturday against Missouri. The victory sets up the traditional Oklahoma-Nebraska showdown next week for the Big Eight Conference title and an automatic berth in the Orange Bowl. Michael Keeling completed the Sooner scoring with a 35-yard field goal and an extra point after each of Rhymes' touchdowns.

Missouri, 7-3, did not score until 78 seconds remained in the game when running back Bob Meyer caught a 12- yard scoring pass from Phil Bradley. Ron Verrilli kicked the extra point. Missouri threatened on its next pos- session, but the drive stalled with a pair of Incomplete passes into the Oklahoma end cone. The Tigers defense quickly forced the Sooners to punt after gaining only 9 yards and the Missouri offense returned to drive 80 yards in seven plays, climaxed by Bradley's touchdown pass to Meyer. Oklahoma, which gained 310 yards rushing, used eight short yardage plays on its first possession of the fourth period to move upfleld 29 yards before Rhymes bolted down the right sideline for his 55-yard touchdown Jaunt.
