L' Mueller Kills Show-Girl Bride, Hangs Himself TRAGEDY INL0S ANGELES Young Bride Tires of Desert Town and Departs, Husband Follows With Death Sequel LOS ANGELES, May 80. (AP) A planned of "last week of happiness" for Lawrence S. Mueller, 82, of El Centro, and Evelyn Chllds, 25, his New York show-girl bride of two months, ended within a few hours, as the case was reconstructed by the police todny, with the Fl Centro sign painter's murder of his "golden girl," In her Bleep, end his own lcldo. A rundown phonograph, on which the record "AH for Love," apparently provided muslo which last night lulled the show-girl to the sleep during which she was strangled by her husband, and continued to grind out the tune as he hung himself by a bedspread in a closet of their hotel room. The bodies were discovered today by a housekeeper, who entered to clean the room.

So stealthily and powerfully had the sign painter evidently worked at his double crime, according to the police, that none of tne otner guests of the hotel heard any suspicious sound from tne couple's room. Letters exchanged between the two and found by the officers in the hotel room, resulted In piecing together their history. Charles' schooling was very Ir regular during his early years, since the family moved to Washington from Llttlo Falls each year when congress was In session, necessitat ing a change In schools for the boy. Then there were visits to relatives In Detroit and a trip to the west coast.

All of which hindered his schooling. Chlof of the Detroit relatives Is John Lodge, a great uncle of Charles, president of the Detroit city council. Charles was moved around so much, he attended 14 schools In all. In between times, his mother tutored him. Like many other men who have made their mark, Lindbergh wasn't-a model scholar.

He walked off with honors In the subjects he liked, but In those In which he was not Interested he barely passed. If he liked the instructor and be was learning something from him Lindbergh applied himself and usually carried off honors. Lindbergh was more Interested In the BUbJect itself than In' the mark which would be given him at the end of the semester. If he didn't feel as it he wanted to hand In a report or take a final examination, he didn't do It. A student who was In Lindbergh's mechanical engineering class says Charles did many more experiments than were required, yet, at the end of the course he neglected to write his reports, since he lost Interest once he felt he had mastered all the Instructor could teach him.

He studied because he wanted to Icarn, not to please his teacher. When Charles failed to apply himself at school there was no punishment forthcoming at home, Mrs. Lindbergh says. She considers It useless to -try to force a child to take a subject In which he has no interest. "Charles takes after me, I guess, in his liking for chemistry," she relates.
