McGuire arrived in Nashville early this month to begin rehearsals with director Thomas Gruenewald for the Herb Gardner comedy, the third Advent Theater Times," the latter with Charles Bronson and James Coburn. His theater credits include appearances with The Cleveland Playhouse, The Syracuse Repertory Theater, The Theater of the Living Arts, The Long Wharf Theater, The American Shakespeare Festival and The New York Shakespeare Festival. McGuire's first New York theater appearance was in "Mr.

Johnson," directed by "Thousand Clowns" director Gruenewald and co-starring James Earl Jones. Off-Broadway, McGuire has appeared in "Moon For The Misbegotten" and Thomas Murphy's "A Whistle In The Dark." His Broadway appearances have include Paddy Chayefsky's "The Passion of Joseph 'D" with Peter Falk and Luther Adler, "Child's Play" and the revival of Noel Coward's "Hay Fever." McGuire's most recent Broadway appearance was in the starring role in the Pulitzer Prize-winning "That Championship Season," for which he received the Outer Circle Critics Award and the Drama Desk Award for his performance as James Daly. The actor's Advent Theater visit marks one of his rare regional theater appearances, due largely to the opportunity to work with director Gruenewald again. McGuire can be seen nightly through May 27 at the Advent Theater, playing Murray Burns, the unemployed scriptwriter who pits his off-beat humor against the welfare department in an effort to avoid returning to the weird world of kid show comedy for Chuckles the Chipmunk. Tickets are available at the theater box office, 327-0373.
