Franklin's Annette Jackson has arrived on the scene and now holds two of the best spring marks in the girls division. Her 11.5 100-yard dash tied McGavock's Wanda Russell and her 59.8 clocking in the 440 barely nosed out Wanda's sister Katrina (60. 1 Wanda Russell also turned in the best long jump this season at 17-6V2, just two inches less than the NIL record.

ton Browns or Thorn Garrisons this spring, but this week is when we usually find them," said Hamilton. "And, don't forget the team competition. It should be wide open in both divisions this year." The 19th annual Optimist will have boys and girls senior high events only, dropping the boys junior high in order to set up the first annual Junior High Championships next month at Overton. Qualifying is scheduled Tuesday (girls) and Thursday (boys) of this week, beginning at 3:30. The field events will also be completed on those days with the running event finals set for Saturday night at 7 at the Bobcat oval.

Five medals will be awarded in With the dual meet track season 'put to rest, focus your camera for the prestigious Optimist Invitational slated this week at Overton. Don Hamilton and the sponsoring Murfreesboro Road Optimist Club are determined to make this one better than any of the previous 18 meets. And, don't bet against them. EXCEPT FOR TSSAA regional and state competition, the Optimist serves as the season's top attraction. It actually serves as a preview to the Midstate Regional tor boys and, of course, is the girls' Nashville Interscholastic League championship event.

TOM "We expect this year's girls meet to top 'em all," said the veteran Hamilton, who directs the meet along with Overton Coach Randall Tidwell. "Girls track is still relatively new and performances continue to get better and better. I'm sure they'll put on a real show." And, despite the absences of the usual NIL super trackmen, Hamilton says the boys' division promises to be as exciting as ever. "WE HAVEN'T seen any Pres Major oxes each individual event with relay trophies and medals as well as team trophies also offered. The Optimist Club sponsors trophies for NIL regular-season dual meet divisional champs and will also help sponsor the Junior High Championships at Overton May 12.

The annual Banner (boys) and Green Hills (girls) relays are scheduled next week before TSSAA competition gets underway with the districts May 3-5. The regional is at McGavock May 13 and the Raider track will also host the state meet May 20. Track times continue to get better with several marks being lowered in the season's final dual meets this past weekend. North's Mickey Avery became the first to hold three top performances in different events, running a brilliant 50.7 in the quarter-mile and tying Overton's Charles Scruggs with a 14.8 clocking in the high hurdles. Avery is a threat to capture both hurdle events.

He's already run 38.2 in the 330 intermediate hurdles, three-tenths of a second better than the current state record. The Yankees may also have the top boys' team in the area, especially in the bigger meets. Coach Jim Nollner has some outstanding relay teams to go with Avery. Hendersonville had another pole vaulter clear the 13-foot mark in Allen Curtis and Stratford's Kenny Jones made the best shot put this spring at 51 feet. The Commandos also had Steve Hewgley go 6-5 in the high jump while Maplewood junior Milton Bowers finally best The Standings IP II ER BB SO American League rinski.
