B7 Find KENTUCKY DEATHS the obituaries at www.courier-joumal.com Jason Bugg, World War II flier Army listed as dead 50 years, dies From Staff and AP Dispatches HARRODSBURG, Ky. Jason Bugg, a Harrodsburg man who was shot down over Germany during World War II and listed by the Army as dead for more than 50 years, has died, apparently of a heart attack. He was 77. Bugg, a retired businessman, was stricken while driving his car in Harrodsburg on Monday, Mercer County Coroner David Ransdell said. Bugg's parents, Zanie and Thomas Bugg, received a letter from the Army saying their son had been killed when his aircraft was shot down May 22, 1914.

Six months later, the Buggs got a letter from the American Red Cross saying their son was a prisoner of the Germans. While it took six months for the Bugg family to learn that Jason Bugg was alive, it took the Army more than 50 years to find that out, Bugg's brother Warren Bugg said. Jason Bugg heard about a reunion of his old squadron a few years ago, and when he asked about it, he learned that the squadron and the Army still had him listed as killed in action. The mistake was corrected. Jason Bugg, a Washington County native, grew up in Harrodsburg and played on the Harrodsburg High School football team.

He studied engineering at the University of Cincinnati, then joined the Army. After the war, Bugg worked in real estate and was a restaurateur and farmer. He was a partner in the old White Cottage and Pioneer restaurants and ran the old Redwood Restaurant in Harrodsburg. Besides his brother Warren, Bugg is survived by four sons, Allen Bugg and Edward Lynn Bugg, both of Lexington, David Thomas Bugg of Hop-kinsville and Everett Lawrence Bugg of Richmond; a daughter, Brenda Marie Elkins of New Albany, two other brothers; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m.
