Missouri only collected two first downs in the first half and Bradley, a two-time All-Big Eight quarterback, a miserable 1-11 passing for 7 yards. But the Tigers still held a 19-7 mission lead on the touchdowns by Whitaker and Wilder, a 48-yard field goal by Ron Verrilli and the safety when Tom Woodland blocked a Mark Waldrup punt out of the end zone.

Wilder's 51-yard run, in fact, was 'Missouri's first first down with 2:30 left in the half. Pete Parks closed the gap to 19-10 with a 34-yard field goal for New Mexi- co with 3:21 left in the third quarter. -But Hill put the game out of reach minutes later on his touchdown recep- tion. (UPI) Jarvis Redwine, showing the 1979 form that shot him into national prominence, scored on touchdown runs of 67, 8 and 6 yards Saturday to pace seventh-ranked Nebraska to a 55-9 rout of Utah. Redwine's 67-yard gallop in the first period the longest touchdown run of his career boosted the 'Huskers to a 14-3 lead.

The flashy transfer from Oregon State, playing his second and final year at Nebraska, left the game in the third quarter with 179 yards on 17 carries. Utah seldom threatened in the lopsided match in which Nebraska scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, one in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth. After Redwine's long scoring run, he widened the margin to 21-3 by nimbly dancing through the Utes' defense from 8 yards out. He scored on a 6- yard run in the third period before coach Tom Osborne began substituting liberally. Andra Franklin scored the fourth Cornhusker TD on a 3-yard run, and Jim Kotera pushed the lead to 41-3 with a 4-yard blast before the Utes scored their only TD early in the final quarter on Del Rodgers' 8-yard run. In the case of Central, many team members played in summer tournaments, resulting in a deep squad and keen competition between members for the top spots, Central coach Cel Muff said.

Harold Frazell's South team, without the conditioning and polish applied in a summer of play, faces the season inexperienced. "I encourage them to go out in the summer, but it was so hot this summer and many of the girls work," Frazell said. Frazell said conflicts with other activities and the lack of a strong junior high program contribute to a shortage of players. Loss of the No. 1 singles and doubles players and the No.

2 doubles team from last year added to the depletion of Frazell's ranks. "We have a very tough schedule and very tough competition," Frazell said. South opened the season with a fifth- place finish in the Hays Invitational last week. Sabrina Skulborstad, the team's only senior and the only member returning from last year's varsity squad took fourth place in the No. 1 singles at Hays and will compete in that position Tuesday at the South Invitational.

The rest of the players will be shuffled to other singles and doubles positions, Frazell said, as he continues to experiment for the best combination. Tailback Danny Clark scored on a 1- yard run for the Buffaloes and freshman Rob Clark kicked two 32-yard field goals and added two extra points.

John Doerner threw scoring passes of 5 and 6 yards to split end Mel Campbell and senior Colin Ankersen kicked a 29-yard field goal for the Cowboys. The Cowboys also scored on a safety in the fourth quarter when the West Texas State center snapped the ball over the punter's head and into the end zone. Oklahoma State went for the two- point conversion after each of its touchdowns. The first try was successful, on a pass to John Chesley, but the which would have given the Pokes a 21-20 victory, went incomplete. The Buffaloes, champions of the Missouri Valley Conference last year, took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter on Clark's two field goals and a 63-yard drive in 12 plays that led to Tidwell's touchdown.

OSU came back in the second period, pulling within 13-11 at halftime, on Ankersen's field goal and Campbell's first touchdown, a 5-yard reception, to complete an 60-yard drive in 10 plays.
