Robert Morris hires Nee Danny Nee, fired by Nebraska last month despite winning more games than any other coach in school history, was hired by Robert Morris. Nee, who coached seven NCAA Tournament and seven National Invitation Tournament teams in 20 years at Ohio University and Nebraska, succeeds Jim Boone, the new Eastern Rodriguez 4 12 1 Garcia From AP and Special Dispatches Leon Barmore, who retired as Louisiana Tech women's basketball coach one month ago, returned to the job yesterday to relieve pressure on school officials who had failed to attract his desired replacement. "After my resignation, unforeseen events intervened," said Barmore, who remains under terms of the five-year contract he signed last August.

Louisiana Tech, a perennial power that finished 31-3 and ranked No. 3 this past season, had all but appointed former associate head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson as Barmore's successor, but she took the Baylor job. "The team I love was suddenly surrounded by uncertainty," Barmore said. "I simply could not bear to see the Lady Techsters suffer." In 18 seasons he has a 520-77 record and has led the Lady Techsters to the NCAA Tournament each year, reaching the Final Four nine times and winning the title in 1988. When Barmore retired, the plan was for him to remain on the payroll through July 1, and school President Dan Reneau said he never officially accepted his resignation.

"I am absolutely delighted that coach Barmore has decided to remain at Louisiana Tech," Reneau said. "That has been my desire all along, and once again it gives us the best women's basketball coach in the world." Pat Knight says his dad feels betrayed Indiana University men's coach Bob Knight feels betrayed by the release of a videotape showing him grabbing former player Neil Reed by the neck, his son says. Pat Knight, a former IU player and now an assistant coach there, said the tape was taken by former assistant Ron Felling, who was fired in December. Felling could not be reached for comment. "Here's a guy like Felling, who steals that tape.

He's going around telling people that he's got it," Pat Knight told The Indianapolis Star. "Thirteen years of loyalty to someone, and he's pulling that kind of stuff. It makes me sick." Associated Press The Dallas Stars are trying to retain the Stanley Cup with the same boring style that won it. The only difference is they now have a few new faces helping out.

Roman Lyashenko, a 20-year-old rookie forward who earns his keep by playing the defense-first system coach Ken Hitchcock demands, scored the tie-breaking goal with 8:29 left to give Dallas a 2-1 victory over visiting Edmonton on Wednesday night in a National Hockey League playoff opener. Mike Keane gave Dallas a 1-0 lead late in the second period. The Oilers tied it seven minutes into the final period when Roman Ti-tov stole a clearing pass from Darryl Sydor and fired the puck past goalie Ed Belfour. It was the first playoff goal against Belfour in 123:30, a streak that began with the Cup-clinching triple-overtime victory against Buffalo last year.
