Breeding as a 3-year-old, and that prolifically, is rare enough. But additionally, Preferred Property is undefeated in the approximately one dozen shows where be has been entered, including a victory as a 2-year-old at the 1981 Kentucky State Fair World Championship Horse Show. "He was bought for a breeding stallion," said Melinda Moore, who drove Preferred Property to victory in the class of 15. "We've found out that it doesn't bother him (to breed) and work, too." While Preferred Property is, as Moore says, "a ball of fire, a very powerful horse," he's not unruly or rank, as are many horses standing at stud.

"He has such a good temperament," said Chris Seaman of Louisville, one of four owners of Preferred Property. "Our main objective is in breeding. But he has the ability to be a world champion (while standing in stud)." The competitors also are eligible for the UPHA National Classic at the American Royal Horse Show in Kansas City, in October. Rain caused postponement of the last two classes scheduled for last night one for open roadster ponies and the other for five-gaited stallions or geldings. They will be shown tonight after the regular classes, with starting time moved forward to 7:15.

By JENNIE REES Cewler-Jeumal Staff Writer Despite having won three world grand championships, Cynthia's Party Punch became a horse only yesterday. Oh, she looked the same. And she still was 14.2 hands, about 57 inches from ground to shoulder blade, or withers. But it wasn't until she competed and won the five-gaited mare (ridden by a lady) class last night at the 45th annual Rock Creek Horse Show that Cynthia's Party Punch was officially a horse. Before, she was a pony.

Conveniently for Cynthia's Party Punch, she's just at the cutoff height between the two divisions. So after the mare laid claim to all those championships as a pony, new owners Susan McMenamy and Edward Bennett elected to take on the challenge of the larger, more competitive mare classes. "It's just a step up for her," said McMenamy, who now rides Cynthia's Party Punch. "Her talent was unused in the (pony) division." Two months ago McMenamy and Bennett, the trainer, purchased the 7-year-old mare from Jim Sayre of Colloden, W.Va. Why did McMenamy want to purchase 50 percent interest? "'Cause she's about the greatest gaited mare there's ever been," McMenamy said, adding that if Cynthia's Party Punch was about a hand taller, she'd be untouchable.

"It was a kind of risky thing, taking her out of the pony class.
