DRY RIDGE Rosa Evelyn Hollon, Crittenden, died Wednes In the new Sagamore proposal, expected to be submitted to the commission today, the group dropped its exclusivity demand and will commit to thoroughbred racing for much of the year.

Thoroughbred meets would be held from September to November in 1994. A harness-racing schedule would begin in April 1995, and thoroughbreds would again race from July to November in 1995 all those races at night. Development costs would rise from the original estimate of $19.9 million to about $22 million because a thoroughbred track requires more accessories and about twice as many stalls. Paul Estridge spokesman for the group, said it hadn't committed to thoroughbreds initially because its previous partners "didn't think it was viable but they weren't in the (thoroughbred) business." Those partners pulled out a few days before final presentations to the commission were due. The group thinks its evening scheduling format will allow it to be competitive with the 11 thoroughbred tracks in neighboring states.

Lou Carlo, a chief investor in the Anderson group, said he always anticipated there eventually would be two tracks and had no problem with that as long as an equitable deal could be worked out so racing days don't conflict. Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS A group that lost a bid last month to build Indiana's first pari-mutuel horse track got back in the race yesterday. The Sagamore Park Group, whose plan for a harness racing track was rejected, prepared to submit to state regulators a revised proposal to bring thoroughbred racing to Indiana. It hopes to build a track off Interstate 74 in Shelby County. Two weeks ago, the Indiana Horse Racing Commission rejected the bid by the Sagamore group, which is led by Carmel businessman Paul Estridge Sr.

and includes the family of New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. Instead, it awarded the state's first pari-mutuel license to the Anderson Park Group, which plans to build a harness track in Anderson. Sagamore had proposed building a harness track that would be long enough to accommodate thoroughbred racing eventually. The commission was concerned about Sagamore's demand that it be the only track within 75 miles for at least 10 years. The Anderson group did not demand exclusivity, nor did it offer an option for thoroughbreds.

Commissioners said it was important that potential developers at least have the chance to build a thoroughbred facility in the area. LOUISVILLE AREA FUNERALS Associated Press LAJOLLA, Calif. -Bob Crosby, the popular swing-era band leader and younger brother of singer Bing Crosby, died Tuesday of cancer. He was 80. Crosby led big bands from 1935 to 1942 and started an eight-piece band-within-the-band, the Bob Cats, during that Crosby time. He sang but didn't play an instrument.

Crosby's bands were known for swing and Dixieland sounds, and the Bob Cats' hit records included, "Big Noise That Blue In From Win-netka," "South Rampart Street Parade" and "March of the Bobcats." "He was active and working right up to a year ago, when he got the cancer," his son Kris Crosby said. Bob Crosby got his start working for Anson Weeks' orchestra. He became a band leader in 1935 after he was approached by 11 New York musicians who asked him to be their leader. The result of that union was the Bob Crosby Orchestra, which within three years was playing supper clubs and night spots across the country. Soon after, the Bob Cats were appearing in movies, including "Let's Make Music," "As Thousands Cheer," "See Here, Private Hargrove" and "Pardon My Rhythm." Crosby was the last of seven siblings to die.
