The additional acreage, much of is now a landfill, is west of the main 15-acre portion of the park. Kentucky Kingdom, which operat-'ed for one summer In 1987 before Closing in the face of financial prob-t lems, will reopen in early June. The new operators, a partnership called 227 Plus 1 headed by Louis--ville investor Ed Hart, signed a 'lease last May for the 15-acre park with the Kentucky State Fair -Board. The lease called for an op--tion on the adjoining 13 acres, which She board authorized yesterday. Park spokeswoman Maria Part-low said the additional land will al- low the operators to determine what can go where and to make fi-'nanclal commitments for them.

"Plans for the park include several major rides, which the existing park had been too small to accommo- date," she said. Partlow said the details of the -park's rides and attractions will be announced in January. The park's original partners, who went bankrupt, acknowledged that the 1987 version of Kentucky Kingdom probably didn't have broad enough appeal to attract enough customers. The new group plans to cater to adults as well as children. Most of the park's original assets were sold at auction last ApriL One large ride from 1987 remains, the enclosed Starchaser roller coaster.

Partlow said admission charges have not been set yet Low prices at coin sale disappoint auctioneers Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS Auctioneers were disappointed that the sale of 156 gold and silver coins brought only $47,000, including $5,850 for an octagonal J50 slug made in 1852. Fearing publicity would lure thieves, the buyer of the slug declined to be named, as did a buyer who paid $375 for a $5 gold piece with a Liberty head minted In 1838. A $20 U.S. coin whose design was revamped after 1907 sold for $4,700. The coin featured a rare raised surface depicting the Statue of Liberty with flowing skirts in a design by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

Only 11,250 coins like it were made. "It's always a thrill to buy a rare one," said collector Gene Alderson of Greenwood, who said he was numb after making his lone purchase at Thursday's event run by Premier Auction Services. "I thought I'd have to pay more for It" David W. Kirstein, co-owner of the auction service, bad predicted the 137-year-old octagonal coin and the Saint-Gaudens' coin would sell save you money, especially on groceries. wiamt I I 9fjt, mw mi HAH, Greenwell Funeral Home after 4 p.m.
