THE DAILY TIMES Office: No. 409 George Street, The Times Publishing Props J. D. CHANDLEE, Editor. THE DAILY TIMES $5.00 per year in advance, or ten cents ret week servei by ctrrwrs.

THE WEEKLY TIMES is, $1.25 per year, in ad ranee. NEW BRUNSWICK, N. MONDAY EVENING, NOV. 1892. CLEVELAND'S majority in New Jersey is 15,379, and Werte' majority for Governor 8.112.

THE prettiest girl in town will to morrow night wear a badge: "I'm a Democrat." Judge Kirkpatrick, of Newark, is spoken of as Judge Werts' successor on the supreme bench. PBESIDENT HARRISON knows what defeated him. Too much special protection and too much force bill. EXCEPT in the cases of Lincoln and Grant, no President in office has been re-elected since time. THE Cleveland victory knows no East, West, North or South.

It the air as well as in the ballot box. THE newly elected Surrogate, Mr. Leonard Furman, will take possession oTthe Surrogate's office tomorrow. THE oldest inhabitant was so aston-. ished at the result that he has so far forgotten to say "I told yon so." Is the near future, Mr.

John I. Davenport will be added lo the long list ol Republican statesmen are job. THERE is no apprehension felt iu bus iness circles over the changes in our fiscal policy which the people have commissioned the Democracy to carry out. EVEBY Democrat shoirld rejoice iu the re-election, for the third time, of -that sterling young Democrat and statesman, William E. Russell, to the Governorship of Massachusetts.

JUDGE William D. Daily, Hudson's County newly elected Stute Senat. was stricken with apoplexy Friday afternoon, while ou the beuch in Hoboken. He is reooveiiiiir. A MAN'S conscience never reproves him for betting on an election, except when he "ibets on the wrong side.

Hence so many people around town with kiuks in their consciences. THIS is the first Presidential election since 1840 in which the result has revolutionized the United States Senate. It is now certain the Democratf will have a small majority in that body. REPUBLICAN journals are now urging upon the Democratic party the necessity of calling Congress together in extra session to revise the tariff. We presume the Democrats will do no such thing.

Now that it is known that Grover Cleveland will be our next President, it has been decided by the mill managers of New Bedford, to increase wages seven per cent, on Dec. 1. This is an inspiring example for all the other mill managers of the country. REPUBLICAN journals are just now expending a great deal of sympathy upon President Cleveland in view of the suf- ring they fear he will endure from the rush of office seekers. There is no record of any such commiseration of President Harrison's case four years MgO.

DAVENPORT must go. Congressman Fitch, Chairman of the committee which has been looking into Davenport's official pranks, announces that immediately on the meeting of Congress a motion will be made to wipe out the whole iniquitous system of Federal supervision of elections. IN the present United States Senate there are 47 Republicans, 39 Democrats and two Farmers' Alliance Senators. The terms of 29 expire on the 4th of March next. Of these, 18 are Republicans and 11 are Democrats, and enough of the 18 will give way to Democrats and Independents to make the Senate anti-Republican.

THE old Roman, Allen G. Thurman, of Ohio, says of the election of Cleveland "It shows that the Presidency cannot be bought." Dear old friend, you are characteristically unselfish in your joy. It was bought once, or you would have been Vice Resident of the United States during the past four years. But it cannot be bought again. The people put a stop to that.

city, the county and the State, are proud of the good showing of the Democracy of Middlesex county. Here is the vote Cleveland's majority, Werts' majority, Geis- genhainer'B majority, 1,886 Furman, Surrogate 1,413 majority for Assem- blv, First District, 180 majority Second District, Daily, 425 majority Third District, Warne, 471 AN effort is being made, aud promises to be successful, to utilize the waterpower of Niagara Falls. ID a few days the gieat tunnel will have been finished. the work of digging the deep trenches for the turbine wheels that are the power will be prosecuted vigorously. It.

is almost impossible to estimate the industrial development which is likely to follow this achievement of modern engineering. THE farmers did it the workingmen did it; the Cnmegies did it the business men did it McKinley did it the silver men did it Wall street did it the greedy manufacturers did it the importers did it the iorce bill did it it, was a cyclone it was a land-slide Johnny Davenport did it; Foraker did the Australian law did it Elaine did it Han'm did It the people did it. It is done. It was done for sure. It was well done.

THE Slate Board of Assessors have recently discovered and assessed seven and a half million dollars, testifying to the fidelity of the Board. Large as the sum seems, it is, however, but an crease of three and one half per cent. upon the assessments of lust year. Of the taxes on this increase nearly forty- thousand dollars will go into the State Treasury, and nearly seventy eight thousand dollars be paid over to the several townships in which the new property is located. The increase comes at a very prop'er time to help the people of the State ia rejecting the theory propounded by the Republican State Committee, that this tax is paid by the other property mid people of the State.

PLAINFIELD, Nov. Oliver B. Leonard, secretary of the Plainfield Board of Health, forwarded yesterday to the State Health Board tho vital statistics of Plainn'eld for the last year. These show that the greater proportion of people here live to a ripe old age. Of the 187 deaths recorded in the twelve months just passed there were fifty-six persons who were over sixty years Of ige.

Girls playing football, just think of And yet the girls of the School oi Design, Philadelphia, hue up and rush and tackle and have a grand good time. But they play bi-hind brick walls, and no one is admitted to the grounds but members of the school.

And what more, they have so modified the game no player is carried offtLe field inconscions, and no one gets bruised. 1 see, said one of the players, we don't really tackle each other, because the ground is dirty, and the girls nearly all have nice new gymnasium So when the half-half runs with the ball, we just tag her, and the ball's down."
