Monday. BIRDSEYE-James Jackson, 62, of Birdseye, died Friday in Community Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a former Dubois County school attendance officer and taught and coached athletics for 32 years at Birdseye and Dubois schools. He was active in Civil Defense work in the county and was chairman of the board of the Tri-Cap Office of Economic Opportunity. Jackson was president of the Indiana Association of Attendance Officers and Visiting Teachers in 1966 and previously had 1 been president of the southern district.

He served as chairman of the state association's legislative committee and was a Democratic precinct committeeman in Dubois County. He was a member of the Birdseye Christian Church and Bethlehem Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. James Jackson; a daughter, Mrs. William Judge, of Indianapolis; four brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren.
