All of which has upped her season average to 180. The Tri-City Union Printcrafts Bowling Association will hold its 23rd annual tournament at Parkmoor Recreation here next month, with 145 teams entered from Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Louisville. Missed at this renewal will be Augie Reiss, a former association president who died recently in his Louisville home.

As a reminder to the bowlerettes, this Friday is the entry deadline for the 51st annual Women's International Bowling Congress Tournament, to be held at Tulsa, standing April 9. Bourdasc Wins Title; Hardwick Bowler of Year Large Selection! Immediate Delivery! TAFE1L MTK By KEN RUSH Times Staff Writer Kentucky's college bowlers, who hopefully launched a conference three years ago, are back on a catch-as-catch-can independent basis. The conference last season included Union, Pikeville and Cumberland colleges plus two Louisville schools Bellar-mine and Kentucky Southern. Kentucky Southern has since merged with the University of Louisville and its loss, says Bellarmine bowling coach Windell Bowles, "seemed to signal the demise" of the state conference. "We were unable to attract any new members," Bowles adds, "since none of the state universities care to recognize bowling as an intercollegiate sport.

This is sad, in a way, when you consider bowling's potential and relatively small cost." As for Bellarmine, where bowling has been accepted as a varsity sport for more than 10 years, Bowles said the school's eight-man team will continue to operate as an "independent," scheduling matches where it can. But these matches are getting increasingly hard to come by. The Bellarmine team, captained by Frank Pontrich of Louisville, has bowled competitively only once this winter, defeating Vincennes University of Indiana. It would like to find other opponents before bowling in the annual American College Union Regional Tournament next Special to The Courier-Journal a Times Ed Bourdase, 41-year-old bowling veteran from Fresno, scored his first victory on the pro tour yesterday by beating Johnny Petraglia of Brooklyn 201-182 in the concluding match of the Greater Los Angeles Open at Arcadia, Calif. His prize was $6,000.

Petraglia, a 22-year-old left-hander, reached the title showdown by winning three matches in the nationally televised finals. He defeated Mickey Higham of Kansas City 188-175, Dale Seavoy of Birmingham, 184-175 and Bob Strampe of Detroit 211-193. Louisville's Billy Hardwick finished 14th, winning $850. Hardwick, meanwhile, was named 1969 Bowler of the Year by the Bowling Writers Association of America. The Louisvillian, top money winner and titlist in seven tournaments, received 435 out of a possible 445 points and 83 out of 89 first-place votes in the balloting.

HEY, CHARLIE BROWN! Besides that little guy in the comics, there must be thousands of Charlie Browns over the country.

But the one we in mind is captain of a team that rolls in the Invitational Mixed. League at Frederick's Lanes on Thursday nights. His name is Charles E. (for Edward) Brown and, naturally, he calls his team the "Charlie Brown Five." "Besides that," he says, "I married MY redhead." That would be Joan, his wife, and she goes along with the Charlie Brown pattern, too. In fact, this season, she fixed up the team's shirts with sleeve patches bearing the cartoon likeness of small Charlie.

"I copied them from a picture of Charlie with a baseball," she, says. Greg Fulkerson Ranked No. 1 In Kentucky By MERRILL DOWDEN Courier-Journal Chess Writer Because I have been out of town for some time, I was unable to report on the Falls City Open held at the University of Louisville during the holidays.

I apologize, therefore, for this belated account of the tournament, made possible through the co-operation of its director, Dr. Samuel Fulkerson. William Martz, a master from Hartland, emerged the winner with a perfect score of 5 points in this classic event, which attracted a field of 50 players representing five states and Canada. Martz has a USCF rating of 2371. Greg Fulkerson of Louisville was the runner-up and is the new state champion, this distinction going to the Kentuckian finishing with the best score.

Young Ful-kerson's ascendancy on the chess horizon was signaled last August when he defeated Master Emeritus Norman T. Whitaker of Washington, D.C., during the Noble O'Neal Memorial Tournament. Greg also is an accomplished violinist. The following finished in this order from third through 10th place: Bernard Parham, West Lafayette, Theodore Pchnec, Elkhart, John Cake, West Allis, Walter Alexander, Lexington, Daniel Switkes, Fort Knox, James M. Fuller, Lexington, and John Jewell and Carl Stutz, both of Louisville.

Boxing Pacers to Risk 5-0 Mark Against Miami The Kentucky Pacers, unbeaten in five International Boxing League matches, will close their home schedule against the Miami Barracudas at Memorial Auditorium Tuesday night. A closed-circuit telecast of the computerized heavyweight fight between Cassius Clay and Rocky Marciano will follow the Pacers-Miami match, which begins at 8 p.m. I'm always happy to present a Bobby Fischer game, because of his pretty combinations and almost flawless technique.

Before playing, study the diagram. Fischer's opponent, as Black, has just played 20 Q-B3, pinning White's King Bishop. How does White untangle the web and force Black's resignation in three?
